NOT 51% of those who respond....51% of those who receive the letter...which is all of QV. So this will happen if people, as people tend to do, ignore it and go about their lives....or never hear about it in the first place.

Now, first of all, how do you write legislation like this....that unless a majority of residents object in writing...that it will pass? Second of all, I never got the mailing, nor did several other residents I spoke too. Third of all, I asked QVNA to send me the mailing again so that I might be able to object....and no surprise they didn't send it! Its hard for anyone to object to something they never read or heard about!

I want NO PARTS of anything that tells me or anyone else what they can or can't do to their house (aside from altering the size or going outside of zoning restrictions. IOW - telling me what my exterior light, windows, paint colors, etc have to look like). If they want to insist that Historic houses be maintained, fine.

If I wanted to live in a place where my neighbors dictated what my house looked like I would buy into one of those suburban cookie cutter developments. One of the great things about Philly...and most major cities, is how different the architecture is even on one single block you could have 8 different styles of houses.
I filed my objection with City Council last week; you can do the same. BTW, even if it passes, I suspect that a legal challenge might be successful.

Its already in the works. There is substantial proof that a lot of land owners did not receive notices as QVNA claims. I honestly think they only sent out a percentage to avoid a majority dissension.

I wrote to DiCicco yesterday.

Neighborhood conservation district my ass. Historic preservation preserves historic structures. Anything else, keep your hands off!

Default Organized resistance

Ourselves and a group of our neighbors are very concerned with the way that this issue has been handled by QVNA for a number of reasons already discussed. We have also expressed our concern with QVNA and DiCicco's office. Does anyone know whether there is any organized group pushing for a fair dialogue and vote on this matter? As the saying goes there is power in numbers and we strongly feel that this is too important to just complain about. Please let us know if anyone knows of any group fighting this issue or if anyone is interested in getting together to formally voice our opinion on this important issue that affects everyone in QV.

Default QVNA e-mail about NCD

FYI. Opportunity for the folks opposed to this to get their concerns heard

Neighbors,
The QVNA May General Meeting is Thursday, May 15, 7:30 p.m. at St. Philip Neri Church, 218 Queen Street.

AGENDA:
Rick Cole, co-chair of the Neighborhood Conservation District (NCD) Committee, will make a powerpoint presentation illustrating key aspects of the legislation.

The notice from City Council regarding the proposal to make Queen Village a Neighborhood Conservation District was sent out in mid April to all residents of Queen Village. If you did not receive a notice, you can email the office to have one sent to you. We will also have copies available at the meeting. You can review the legislation on the QVNA web site (on home page, click on the right link to Neighborhood Conservation District and follow to "draft legislation.") Some copies will be available at the meeting. The May Crier will be distributed at the end of this week. Be sure to read Mike Hauptman's article on the legislation. ----------------------------------------

It sounds more like an opportunity for QVNA to try to sell the idea than for people to express their own opinions.

Then by all means stay home and complain about it on an online forum.

If people don't show up and represent themselves, what do they expect? There have already been two general membership meeting dedicated to this legislation. If residents are opposed to this, the GMMs are one obvious opportunity to get more details, voice opposition, and possibly even get information about how to go about blocking the legislation. There are always twice as many people bitching about stuff on this forum than EVER show up at the GMMs.

So here we have yet another GMM about the topic. Are the people who posted here going to show up and join the debate/be a part of shutting it down?

What are the actual borders of QV according to the QVNA?

I agree with both points. Clearly, QVNA is doing this to "sell" the legislation. But, we can also work to stop it at this meeting. Put up flyers, tell your neighbors, get people to come and raise a stink. Remember, one-way Christian was killed as a result of a very vocal QVNA meeting, and there's no reason we can't do the same this time.

AND REMEMBER TO FILE YOUR OBJECTION WITH CITY COUNCIL.
