The legislation just says "property owners"....like everything else about this bill, it is vague and unclear and NO ONE could clarify it. One woman at the meeting kept asking whether she would get 5 votes if she owned 5 properties. No one could answer her because THEY DON'T KNOW. This legislation was clearly thrown together quickly by people who never thought it through.
I really don't know if the grass roots campaign can work. First of all, we'd have to get a number of people to spend quite a bit of time. I think the number of properties in QV is like 2,000. That means we would need 1,000 signatures. Secondly, it really requires some in depth explanation as to why this NCD is such a bad idea, since its been spun as such a good thing. I really think this needs some media attention to get DiCicco to withdraw this bill. |

That sounds like a system in a country that has a dictatorship and does not tell the citizens that there is an election. Talk about having the cards stacked against you. Put it on the ballot in november.

i think that BS flag is right on.. they may say this, but how could it possibly be true? i have never heard of a situation where someone can push through some sort of legilsation because half the potential pool of voters (measured how?) didnt vote against it? if they say half must vote for it (again, half of what) thats a different animal. i'm in BV, but per previous suggestion I'm happy to right to diciccio

I called Dicicco and plainly asked him this question. I said "if three votes are given, and two votes say no/one votes say yes, does this thing get passed". After stuttering for a bit I was told "no".
If you ask me they are trying to make it look like its a done deal. I think I've got something from the enacting legislation to shut this thing down-or at least slow it for a bit. Their own guidelines make this an illegal proposition. But we really should mobilize some type of campaign. |

Well, I wrote to DiCicco and his aide Brian Abernathy who I have dealt with often. I didn't bother writing to QVNA because I doubt that matters at all since "they" are the ones who put this together in the first place. I have not yet filed a written objection as I was never given the information as to how to formally object to the legislation (never receiver "the letter" never got a response to my email to QVNA, etc).

I wrote to the City Council Chief Clerk, as instructed in the mailing, and to DiCicco and to Jim Kenney (whose wife is originally from Queen Village) and to Mayor Nutter and to all of the members of the City Council L&I committee as many of them are Council at Large and answer to all voters, not just a district. It may not help but it can't hurt and it didn't hurt me to have the satisfaction of venting ten times over.
I didn't bother writing to QVNA, their minds are made up. |
