Default How does Steaks on South stay in business?

I walk past that place at least every other day, and there's never more than 2 or 3 people inside, even in the warmer, busier months. I really don't understand how they're still running.

Anyone here eaten there before?

Jean Madeline students eat there all the time.

I've been there. Not a fan of its steaks, but the chicken parm wasn't bad. I'd rather have a roast pork w/greens at Tony Luke's any day.

Saturday afternoons the place is hopping. I think that they get the hungry people not willing to wait in line at Jim's.

Their food is pretty good, but the place has been cursed ever since foodtek was there. I've got a killer idea for that place but I refuse to pay the rent.

Remember right before SOS a guy spent a ton of money to build a roast pork business? I don't even think it was open long enough for me to place an order.

Steaks On South can stay open because the owner is the former owner of Pontiac.

Dobb's was awesome(and may be again...shhhh), then a lady bought it. She got married. She allowed her husband to run it into the ground by ripping off musicians, allowing beer to go sour, etc.. Once he properly screwed it up he decided to go into the food business. rennovated Pontiac and built Steaks On South.

Steaks on South has been for sale several times-price has varied from 375k down to somewhere around 189k(if I remember correctly-its been on craigslist a bunch of times). The place simply doesn't have enough equipment to warrant that type of sale without owning the building.

Meanwhile they sold the pontiac building for somewhere between 800k-1.1mil(can't remember off hand) so they're riding out the lackluster business at S.O.S. while in search of a buyer or a mass influx of business.

Default Set the record straight

Steaks On South is staying open because of hard work, quality food and family friendly atmosphere. The owner of the Pontica Grill has step away from the business and does not invest any time or money.

I am the former owner of the Artful Dodger, who rolls up my sleeves everyday to make a great cheesesteak. I have a passion for this neighborhood, for good food and people.
My personal SOS favorite is the buffalo chicken cheesesteak.

The Buffalo Chicken Cheese steak at SOS was a terrible mess of cubed up chicken breast, buffalo sauce, and blue cheese salad dressing. Biting into the sandwich resulted in half of the lukewarm chicken cubes falling out of the bread. Terrible.

It looked so bad when they were making it, I stopped at Jims to get a regular cheese steak on the way home, which was also lukewarm and soggy.

Okayy...
are you saying you now own it or you are managing it? I was not aware that the artful dodger sold, either.

Default Thanks for the feedback

I am committed to making great food. Stop by, try the buffalo chicken cheesesteak again and ask for me, Patrick.

Yes, I am the owner of SOS. Yes, I sold the Dodger about eight years ago.

Thanks for the heads up with the pretend b-ball last night.

Ahhh...8 years ago isn't exactly recent history around here, so I was a bit confused by your notation. Well, thankyou for getting Daryl off of south street, and I wish you luck. I saw SOS for sale on craigslist a couple of times but thought he wanted way too much for it.

You have good food and hopefully you'll do well this summer.

i actually like sos better than jims .. it's less crowded, no steak nazis, I'm not ordering under that vent and getting coated in steak stink, and the steak is bigger. My only complaint is the weird hours. Always seems closed to me.
