I agree. I also think that the steaks at SOS are a perfect size, and not overbearing like other places.

They lose a little on each sandwich ... but make it up in volume ....

(A very old joke).

Remember right before SOS a guy spent a ton of money to build a roast pork business? I don't even think it was open long enough for me to place an order.

Steaks On South can stay open because the owner is the former owner of Pontiac.

Dobb's was awesome(and may be again...shhhh), then a lady bought it. She got married. She allowed her husband to run it into the ground by ripping off musicians, allowing beer to go sour, etc.. Once he properly screwed it up he decided to go into the food business. rennovated Pontiac and built Steaks On South.

Steaks on South has been for sale several times-price has varied from 375k down to somewhere around 189k(if I remember correctly-its been on craigslist a bunch of times). The place simply doesn't have enough equipment to warrant that type of sale without owning the building.

Meanwhile they sold the pontiac building for somewhere between 800k-1.1mil(can't remember off hand) so they're riding out the lackluster business at S.O.S. while in search of a buyer or a mass influx of business.

hehehe...you and your south street tax. A cheesesteak at Jon's and similar south philly places costs just as much as south street:

Geno's.-$7
Pat's-$6
Jon's-$6.5
---South Street Prices----
Steaks on South-$7.49
Jim's Steaks-$7.49
Steve's Steaks-$5.5
La Pizzeria-$5.5
Ishkabibbles-$7

So, if you want to be technical, Jim's and SOS are a whopping 50cents higher, while other south street places serve great food at cheaper prices. There is no such thing as a south street tax.

Limited service restaurants within the south street area currently provide $34,600,000 worth of revenue to our local economy if you adjust the numbers from a 2004 market capitalization survey. The immediate residents account for 12%-18% of sales depending on the type of restaurant. Anything else?

Oh, per usual-google that Lattéhell.

South Street Tax is a perception of an adjustment in average pricing to reflect additional contingencies such as rent, taxes, etc.., and to capitalize in a densely visited market.

It does not exist.
edit*-its exists the same way as old city tax, nolibs tax, center city tax, and manayunk tax, which all charge me more for my desired type of beer than south street.
