Default Pizza in the QV

Any recommendations on the best pizza in the neighborhood, either delivery or pick up? I like all kinds, but am not thrilled with Queen Village Pizza (right next door to me).

I appreciate any help you all can offer!

Pretty much all of the pizza places on South are substandard, though I eat at them frequently, especially Lorenzo's late at night. La fuorno's is an exception but it's more of a flatbread style which you may not like. Gianna's grille has good pizza but it's more of a vegetarian place. There white pizza is very good. There are a few threads on this topic already if you search.

So I am curious as well. Truth be told we make our own pizza now. It's so easy and fast that for the last few months we've not ordered a full pie from anywhere. Trader joes has a fresh unfrozen decent pizza dough for 1.99 that you can get. Some places in the italian market also sell freshly made dough. You can whip up a gourmet pizza in about 5 mins and 20 mins later it's ready to eat.

3rd & south I am guessing you mean Lorenzos. It's really only tasty at 2am after many beers and covered in red pepper flakes. Two of those in one sitting are torturous on the lower abdominals. There is something very chewy about the crust and it doesn't digest well. In fact all of south street is covered in uneaten lorenzo's crusts. I have to watch my dog at all times so he doesn't eat them....I'm sure he gained 10 lbs this summer sneaking them every so often.

I was just at trader joes and got some more dough. They have many tapenades and bruschettas to spread on a pizza all very cheap as well. I'm telling you can make an awesome pizza super fast. Maybe i'll start selling them off of monroe...still looking for an awesome pie in QV...

I'm making a pizza right now...

Pietros is ok, pretty expensive and pretty variable as well. How about D'alonsos? Is that place new or old. I don't recall seeing it before. In any event it looks like a Lorezo's ripoff. The flat breads at new wave aren't bad but certainly not filling or take out.

I'd kill for a vermont flat bread place near me.

for some reason pietro's turns out better pizzas at its rittenhouse location more consistently. to me, any pizza place that doesn;t use fresh ingredients is going to have mediocre pizza in the end. philly has a lot of crap pizza. even lombardi's pales in comparison to its original pizzaria in NYC (which claims to be the first in the US).

try napoli. they're in bella vista and they deliver to society hill...so i assume they deliver to QV.

their regular pizza is sub-par, but the square pie is thin, crispy and DELICIOUS...and only 10 bucks for a plain cheese!

I live in BV and Marra's delivers to our house. It's very good, brick-oven fired pizza from a South Philly institution. Something like 12 bucks for an absolutely huge large.

Try J&J's upside-down pizza. It's great. They deliver in QV and Bella Vista, but I am not sure how large their delivery area is. The pizza is always fast and the delivery people are exceptionally nice. 215-551-1233

There's a place on South where my husband goes when Lorenzo's line is falling out its door. It's on South, between Bridget Foy's and North (across from the Chef's Market). He really likes their pizza. The slices are as large as Lorenzo's for when you're looking at 2am for size over substance. I find the place to be a little dirty. I forget the name -- they also have a sign in the window for funnel cakes.

I tried Gianna's recently on the recommendation of someone on Philly Blog. It was ok. They use cheddar (along with other cheeses) on their pizza, which is an acquired taste. I found the dough to be very floppy and spongey. It's not as bad as I'm making it sound, but it wasn't the delish I was hoping for.

Surprisingly, the pizza place under Fat Tuesday's isn't bad. They don't deliver, though. Pick up one of their menus -- they're unintentionally hilarious. The people who work there are very kind.

My husband likes Napoli. I'm not a fan. Their pies seem too pre-fab.

Gianfranco's delivers to my area (Front and Bainbridge), but I'm nots sure of their complete delivery area. Excellent pizza and salads. 215-592-0048
