Use the "Plan My Trip" function on the Septa.com web site.
Put in your starting point, put in your ending point. Push the button and, voila, a whole new world will open up. Don't know where you are starting from in QV but there are lots of options. For starters, 57 bus runs up third opening up a whole new world ... south street, Market Street, Penn's Landing, Center City.

Well I think we should start out by saying that there are no subway stops close to Queen Village, really. Either Ellsworth-Federal on the BSL or 2nd Street on the MFL, but both are many blocks outside the established boundaries of QV.
QV to Rittenhouse, I guess I'd ride the 40 west on Lombard. Get off around 18th, give or take. Ride it back east to QV on South. To Old City/Northern Liberties, take the 57 north up 3rd, as already indicated. To Fairmount/Spring Garden/the Art Museum, take the 57 to 3rd & Arch then transfer to the 48. Actually, better for going to the Art Museum would be the 38 from 3rd and Market. |

the 47 runs all night long if you are on that side of QV (runs N/S on 7th and 8th). If you are towards the south, the 64 runs along washington to the BSL. and of course, the bus on 3rd as aforementioned. the 40 is probably your best bet to get to rittenhouse or walk up to walnut and catch the 21,42, or 9 buses.

If I am going directly to Rittenhouse, I take Route 12 a lot -- it has stops along Pine and works its way up to Walnut at 7th Street and goes all the way across town on Walnut (back on Locust to 8th and then down to Pine again).
Otherwise I take the 40 (along Lombard) to Rittenhouse and the 57 (up 3rd/down 4th) to Old City a lot. Although Old City is only a 15 minute walk so I only take the bus if I'm in a hurry.

Best options are the Routes 12, 40, or 42 buses if going east-west.
If going north-south, use routes 25 or 57.

Yep it's just easier to walk IMO. I've not ridden a city bus here except for the trolleys. The greasy windows and pale downtrodden faces staring out from them just encourage me to huff it in the rain or the cold.
I've said it before but I think a philly phlash bus loop that runs through south street and up through rittenhouse and cc would be great.
