I almost asked if anybody knew what happened to the dog, since it was in a pic I took last night... My heart breaks for this dude.

This story just makes me sick. We've seen the "Missing" posters around our neighborhood for a while, and felt so sad - now we hear this. I just can't believe it. My heart goes out to that man and Enda - I just don't know what to say about that type of grief.
These kids are no doubt, at serious risk of becoming/being sociopathic (as animal torture is a major sign/symptom of such a personality), and will surely become more dangerous as they age. They need to be found and treated/ punished for what they've done. |

Heartbreaking and sickening story. As a local dog-owner who walks my own pooch past the missing Edna posters every day, I never imagined something this awful could have happened. The inexplicable part is that there already was a posted reward. No ransom was necessary. You almost have to assume that those kids wanted to torture that dog.
I don't even know what to make of that, other than to say that Skirky is right. Those kids need to found and proper intervention needs to happen (punishment, treatment, whatever) because they have a dangerous future ahead of them. And any time you have 16- and 9-year-old kids who are living in a situation where they can meet a stranger at midnight, I think you have to put some blame on the parents too. I would like to add, however, before this thread turns into a sounding board lamenting the depraved state of the Philadelphia teenager, that I work with Philly teens on an everyday basis. They're not all little angels, but I've never come across a single one who would do something like this. |

I am so upset I can barely write. I too walk my dog every day and saw the posters. There were so many, I always thought how much the guy must really love Edna. My heart will be broken for a very very long time. I also hate the fact that we have to live in constant fear amongst such savages not knowing which one of us will be their next target. If anyone finds out any further information abouth whether they were caught, please keep us all informed.

this is one of the worst stories I have read in long long time.
when scorpiorose posted something to Winston about being wary of posting monetary rewards for his lost cat, and to beware of people that would torture/hold it for ransom, well, I sorta thought she was just being a little on the nutty. now, I am amazed, disturbed, saddened, and slightly nauseous. when the 9 or 16 yr old gets picked up (or put into the ground) - soon - for something having to do with a human - the family will decry...."but my baby was a good son. he loved everyone. everyone loved him". sorry, i'm wearing my cynical hat today. Sorry to Bill and Edna. my sympathy goes out to them both.

This absolutely hideous. I was helping a friend hand out candy on Halloween, and we saw a man with a leash around his neck calling her name in an upset voice. We asked him if his dog got away, and he said she was named Edna, and what she looked like, etc. A couple of friends actually walked around for a little bit looking for her. It really upset me when I saw the posters later because it meant she was still missing. Now this. I seriously want to throw up.

Very sad. My wife saw this guy, and he was distraught.
Must have been excruciating to be prepared to pay whatever he needed to get the dog back, only not to be able to do it because the punk with the dog was unintelligible. |

Therapy for these little bastids?? No, sorry, if at this point they've already done something this horrendous, at what appears to be a fairly young age, there is no hope for them. Therapy will only prolong everyone's misery.
