I could barely read through this awful story in the newspaper. I was sad and at the same time very very angry. I wish I could get my hands on these two little s***heads.

I wonder why they would do something like this? The problem today is if someone has a problem with you, they won't say it in front of your face, instead the pet is targeted.

It makes me ill when I hear about innocent children getting caught in the crossfire while scumbags like this live. This is going to offend some but I would like to see these kids wind up as two more homicide stats in Philadelphia.

I just got off the phone with Bill Whiting, the guy whose dog it was. He "pretty much" committed to joining us!!!

Two scumbags tried to extort money from a guy, likely wanted to kill him too, tortured his dog with him on the phone, killed his dog and then called him back again just so he'd know.

Pretty bad scenario but no worse than things that happen every week. More than one murder of a human every day. Each and every single day.

What exactly am I pulling back from?

There are bad people out there. Too many bad people.

I've said this to you before. You wish it were a nicer, kinder gentler place. It's not. Just be aware of what's going on and stay safe.

All I'm really saying is that when a couple of ghetto rats start coming up to you, keep in mind that they might be the nicest people in the world, or they might be the pair that torture and kill dogs for fun while trying to get the dog's owner to come to them at midnight (for some undisclosed purpose -- actually to fulfill their conspiracy to commit murder). You don't have to run away screaming in panic (or punch all of them or whatever the heck you are talking about), but just keep in mind what people are capable of and what they do from time to time.

PHILADELPHIA - In response to Stu Bykofsky's article in the Daily News, Mr. Bill Whiting will be leading a protest in front of Verizon's 1717 Arch Street, Philadelphia office at 12p today.

A groundswell is forming around the city in response to Bykofsky's article, much of it located on the Philly.com message board. People are horrified by the appalling lack of consideration being given to the Philadelphia Police Department as they attempt to obtain phone records vital to solving this heinous crime.

Verizon is taking far too long - as many as 12 days between responses - thus valuable time is being lost in catching the perpetrators of this crime. Additionally, Verizon is charging an exorbitant amount of money for the research.

While there is nationwide concern for our eroding civil rights, including the concern of wiretapping without a warrant, the Philadelphia Police have a search warrant and are attempting to obtain this information legally. While it's widely known that the first 48 hours are the most crucial time in an investigation, Verizon seems to not understand that vital point and is showing no compassion towards its customers.

The purpose of this protest is twofold. The first point is to affect the immediate release of legally requested phone records to help track and capture the perpetrators of the presumed torture and murder of Edna. The second point is to effect a corporate change in Verizon so that delays like this never occur again. The next time any law enforcement agency requests via warrant any phone records from Verizon, Verizon should be able to provide those records within 12 hours. Anything longer than 12 hours is unacceptable and reduces the efficiency of the agencies we rely upon to protect us. Verizon should also provide this service to any law enforcement agency free of charge.

The next time this happens, it might not be a dog. It might be your child. Imagine if an Amber Alert took two weeks.

It should be noted that this protest is in response to Bykofsky's article published on November 30, 2007. This protest is being planned nearly exclusively via the Internet, with very little notice and few lines of communication. Your assistance in getting the word out would be greatly appreciated. Your coverage of this event may ensure that Verizon cooperates efficiently in the future.

I've had some time to calm down and think about this. Also, discuss it with my husband.

I will say why I think they may have done it, but it will sound racist and I know we don't like when threads get derailed like that. That's my disclaimer.

Let's just say that we're talking about a couple of kids from the ghetto, most likely very poor and "disadvantaged" (whether by their own doing or not, I cannot say).

And we have a dog owned by a probably well-to-do white person (at least the ghetto kids would assume he is well-to-do since he offered so much as a reward...one reason I advocate NOT giving an exact dollar amount on the fliers...it opens you to extortion).

There is a lot of deep resentment in the ghetto toward white people, esp. those with money or who seem to have money. There is also a lot of disdain for white people who are seen as being willing to put forth so much money to save an animal, when daily in the ghetto, humans die and are maimed and no one seems to care.

I'm not saying I agree with the attitude many in the ghetto have, just pointing out that these vermin MAY have sought to vent their anger on the poor, innocent dog...which could explain why they seemed to WANT to hurt the dog, even though it meant not getting the reward.

I would not be surprised if you were to go into the ghetto and interview residents about this incident. What might they say?

"Isn't that just like rich white people...gettin' all worked up over a dog when here, cops kill us every day and nobody gives a damn".

Remember that many said similar things in the news when Officer Cassidy was killed...."getting all worked up over a white cop being killed when our black men get killed in the ghetto all the time and nobody cares."

The next dog park that goes in (Dickenson Square?) should be named Edna Park, so that we can all remember her and remember to be active against animal cruelty.
