I said a "majority" of the dogfighting is in low income neighborhoods, and that there are EXCEPTIONS. I did not say that it NEVER happens in places like Chestnut Hill.
By the way the section of Kensington where those 22 pit bulls were found in the basement has been going downhill for years and is now becoming filled with a lower class of people. Oh yeah almost forgot that demon child who didn't show up on January 31st is a Hispanic and not white. |

eh, this lady is associating herself with scorpio talking about how "we all know who commits crime" and "if that makes me a racist, so be it"-then when she's questioned she of course discusses social class rather than race. Another boring person who is notated as a moron for merely hitching her horse to scorpio's hypochondriac post.
Jedi, I'm at work and I'm listening to Dead Puppies by the Dead Kennedy's.

Thank you for the updates on the Edna story. I doubt there will be a happy ending, but at least there may be change in business practices that will help someone in the future.

EDNA, the friendly beagle mix who vanished in the Italian Market area on Halloween, is still gone. But the little brown dog is not forgotten by her guardian, Bill Whiting, nor by the thousands of people who have rallied to his side following stories in the Daily News about Edna's disappearance and her torture over the phone by extortionists making ransom demands. On Wednesday at noon, under the banner of "Justice for Edna," the 57-year-old Whiting plans to have a news conference and rally in front of Verizon's office at 1717 Arch St. Verizon is targeted because it took the company a week to begin to comply with a police search warrant for phone records that might have led to the extortionists. And getting the search warrant took police a stunning five days. Whiting told me that he will call on local Verizon president William B. Petersen to come down to receive a petition calling for the telecommunications giant to fill police requests faster and to stop charging police for the service. More than 5,000 people from around the world signed the online petition, which runs 839 pages. At the rally, Whiting said he will call on Verizon "to take an active, cooperative role in helping to keep their own customers, communities, neighbors and animals safe." Whiting, who works for the University of Pennsylvania's Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, has invited Mayor Nutter and Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey to attend the rally, to hear what more the city and police can do to better protect people and their pets. He also will provide a description of Nicetown's Victor Rodriguez, 15, who was arrested in connection with the crime but who failed to show for a pre-trial listing. Rodriguez is charged with felony extortion, criminal conspiracy and criminal mischief, plus additional charges of terroristic threats and harassment. A bench warrant for his arrest was issued Jan. 31. The D.A. is responsible for hunting juveniles with warrants against them - and there are 2,658 of them, according to D.A. spokeswoman Cathie Abookire. The monthlong search for Rodriguez has been fruitless so far, she said. "We have gone to several addresses where we thought he might be, and he wasn't," she said. "He is not enrolled in any school." Somehow, that fails to shock. What does shock is that, to my knowledge, neither police nor Verizon have taken a step to improve the procedures that may have doomed Edna. It was a dog this time. It could be a child next time. * By Stu Bykofsky Philadelphia Daily News Daily News Columnist |

Bill is doing as well as can be expected. Case will most likely be delayed ad naseum since it is now classified as a FTA (failure to appear).
Good news: there are plans to erect a memorial in Cianfranni Park with a bronze rendering of Edna's collar and a plaque. Further details to follow. "Those who can, do; those who cannot live in Philadelphia." |

Victor Rodriguez, the teen charged with felony theft in the disappearance and possible torture last fall of Edna, the brown beagle mix, has surrendered to authorities. Cathie Abookire, spokeswoman for the District Attorney's Office, said yesterday that the 15-year-old had been in Virginia with a relative. On Thursday, he turned himself in at the Youth Study Center here. Rodriguez, who is now in custody at an undisclosed community-based shelter, faces a trial March 10 in Family Court on charges of felony theft by extortion, criminal conspiracy and criminal mischief. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of terroristic threats and a summary offense of harassment. A bench warrant was issued for Rodriguez, of Nicetown, on Jan. 31 after he failed to show for a pre-trial listing. Subsequently, detectives from the D.A.'s office searched for him, including going to several addresses where they thought he would be. They also determined he wasn't enrolled in school here. "Through very good detective work, we learned that the defendant was in Virginia," Abookire said. "We were able to get word to him that he was wanted in Philadelphia." Bill Whiting, Edna's owner, said yesterday that he feels "a certain sense of relief that they have found" Rodriguez, but still feels "a lot of frustration." Edna disappeared on Halloween while Whiting was visiting a friend in the Italian Market area. About 11:58 p.m. on Nov. 10, he received a call from two young males saying they had Edna, but wanted $600 for her. In the background, he heard a dog yelping with pain and the jangling of dog tags. Whiting pleaded with them not to hurt the dog, who was his companion for some 11 years, offering to give them even more than $600 if they would keep her safe until the morning. A few hours later, at 3 a.m., he received a second call from one of the boys saying he had killed Edna. The dog has not been found. Whiting, 57, plans to hold a news conference and rally in front of Verizon's office at 1717 Arch St. at noon Wednesday because it took the company a week to begin to comply with a police search warrant for phone records that might have led to the extortionists. "My being put through four months of hell is inexcusable when this could have been a slam- dunk," Whiting said. "It's torn me apart. It's affected me at work. It's affected me at home. "Whiting, who had wanted local Verizon president William B. Petersen to come to the rally to receive a petition, said he found out Petersen "will not be available." The online petition, signed by more than 5,000 people around the world, calls for the company to fill police requests more quickly and to stop charging police for the service. Whiting said he would also like the entire telecommunications industry to change its policy on such matters. By JULIE SHAW Philadelphia Daily News |
