LOL!!!! GREAT ONE ZUR!! Yeah, his undergrad program is questionable at best! Moreover the athletic program there couldn't beat the high schools in Upper Darby. Ok thats it for my bashing of ASG. |

South Street will remain the same because the clientèle will remain largely the same.
The clientèle is somewhat rowdy and not conducive to creating a more "high-end" strip. Ever. Retail areas are built upon demand. The demand for high-end commercial retail is already met by the present locations in the local area. Unless Philadelphia gets dramatically wealthier overall, don't expect this growth to expand to an entirely different retail location than the current areas seeing high-end retailers. Especially from national chains...that go to great length to locate where they see similar offerings.

Seems a bit lopsided of an effort, IMHO. I'm all for upgrading South Street's streetscape - biking down the street is a terror (esp. that wacky 500 block) and I would love some cleaner sidewalks as well. But I've no desire to help transpose South Street into something else, other than what it has been for decades. Consider me a purist or what have you - but if I need high-end shopping or galleries, I know where to go. What annoys me most is when those new to the area start to spout off their visions for this strip like it hasn't been tried or discussed ever before. Sure, my neighborhood might need a nice hot bath and some TLC - but it doesn't need a gentrification makeover.

Less wasting of money on million dollar projects that do nothing more than appease new residents who say "well in NYC and in Portland blah blah blah" and those that have the time to attend local community groups repeatedly to the point they become board members who keep thinking they can force areas into things that they aren't. (or keep trying to increase the value of their investments with public money) that's a run on sentence ..

Argree with you South St Man! No need to change the types of shops. All I am preaching is the street needs a face lift. Every 20-25 years that is not too much to ask for a high traffic, high tourism area. By no means do we want it to become king of prussia, but in all fairness I do not believe that is what FrontBainbridge boy was preaching for either. I think the two of them, FrontBainbridge and the Alesia were saying the same things in different ways. |

Yes, the streetscape needs some TLC - I'm fine with that. I'm not fine when someone considers "Starbucks a good start" as FrontB did.
