They are supposedly putting boxes up. Someone screwed up and put poles in for new meters-those are being removed and meter boxes are going in.

Screw up? Now that's just nonsense. On this project?

Here's PGW today fixing a screw up on top of a screw up on top of a screw up on top of a screw up. No, I'm not exaggerating, and they are f&*(cking killing the block. So far they have broken their own gas lines while trying to fix others, broke two or three water mains, and screwed up in ground electrical infrastructure already laid down for the streetscape project.

I had a (former South Street) friend in town over the weekend and they actually commented how sad the strip looked ... between the wild west motif of dust, dirt and wooden planks to enter the stores - to the ramshackle look of the street - each block filled with a mix of vacancies and/or reconstructions (Phila-deli) ... he commented how its like they decided to just tear everything apart all at once.

I said 'if only that was the reason, I'd have a bit more hope'

now, after hearing about the 4/south debacle ...totally frustrating indeed.

In "the project's" defense, it has been going very well and they haven't screwed up. PGW is always screwing up, and their work is completely unrelated to the streetscape work. I know you know this but I want to make sure everyone understands that.

From what I can tell, the contractors ON THE STREETSCAPE PROJECT have been doing very well and working very quickly.

I don't want to be too subjective about weather the old street lights or the new street lights are nicer, but the old ones were really nice IMHO. Does anyone know what the plans are for those? Will they get scrapped? Relocated? Sold to a lighting place as novelties?

The sidewalks are uneven, they got as much concrete on the buildings as they do on the sidewalks, they put tar around the cellar doors, and again, who picked out those butt ugly red street lights.
