Hey genius george,
As you wish to stereotype and class certain types of people, may I remind you that you are a lowly queen village renter that cries and whines because you saw a rat on the road in the city. That makes you lower bourgeoisie and a woos, so you really have no room to talk.
While you are at 3rd and bainbridge, look around. Gayle, Ansil, Southwark up the street, are far from lowly class-especially since they are all three bells and one is rated as one of the top ten restaurants in the nation. And yes, they are part of the south street district.
While you're busy with snails at Southwark, kidney at ansill, or crabs at Gayle, ask them why they came to our area. Not because of your champagne taste on a beer budget-no, they came because of the "current clientele" that they were a part of before they owned a business.
Ansil came back to his roots when he worked at the former Judy's(whose clientele would of made you pack and leave faster than that rat), Kip has always been friends with the 4th street tattoo artists prior to opening southwark, and Daniel loves the local coffeeshops and vibrancy of walking traffic which is why he made our area his home and business location.
Beau Monde, coquette, Ava, Bistro Romano, boutiques, high end personal services-all filled with people worth more in spirit and class than you are...so I don't know where you get off thinking you are better than our current customer base.
You want to know why they don't have "brick pavers"? Become a project supervisor with ADA compliance knowledge and you can find out. I've seen every rendition of this project and there was never once brick pavers being used. There is a pending renovation project for the headhouse area that can use pavers due to precedence and historical significance, but south street was never once slated for such a thing.
If you took more time to research rather than assume, you would know that the street will not have a problem with concrete getting skewed by tree trunks since they are implementing new technology that inhibits root growth while maintaining a structural protective border around the tree. You would also know that the sidewalks are being torn up and replaced because new conduit and electric lines had to be installed to provide current to the new pole lights, trees, and properly timed streetlights that will be coming soon. You would also know that construction costs and materials for capital projects have multiplied 5 times due to Katrina and other national tragedies-which inhibits the possibility of gold lined streets. You would also know that PGW is redoing all of their infrastructure, which is what???? Under the concrete.
But since you are part of the lower class you doth protest too much, I wouldn't expect you to know or comprehend these things. Now sit in your cubicle and work for someone else little boy, and don't forget to pay your rent on time. We'll still be in this sh*thole making more money than you, serving better people than you, and overall loving life more than you when you get home to our neighborhood.

seems that all this work they're doing is a giant waste of time, since they're just putting regular old concrete walkways in to repalce the exact same thing. it's a waste of a great opportunity to have put in bricks, pavers, etc. that would have really classed up that street. i suppose taht the powers that be want sout street to remain a shithole and pander to its current "clientele" instead of trying to do better, and bring better shops/bars/restaurants in there.
