You can get a ticket for that. It's called "the unexpired time of another".

Are you sure they had it "closed"? The first time I drove by thought is was closed myself because they had the big barrels in the middle of the street (which is normally the drive lane) but shortly thereafter I released there was no parking in the right lane and cars were driving down that one. If you do find it closed, call Dave at the district office and tell him. The city and the GC have offices on-site (I think at 8th and south or thereabouts). If it is in fact part of the contract it should be addressed. I haven't been closely involved in the Streetscape project so I am not up to speed on said contract. |

TK,
When I left my house yesterday morning at 5:30am the entire street was closed, and there were bulldozers and work trucks directly in the middle of the street. There was no one around, so it had to be like that all night. Quote:

Try emailing the address at the bottom of this message and asking about the street closures (the email should go to the SSHD office and Dave Hammond should get it).
I got this from another board member who was at the most recent Streetscape Committee meeting. ================================= Stage I underway: Trenching to lay electrical conduit for the new street lights, expected to conclude 3/24. No parking on either side of street during the trenching, 3 blocks at a time, beginning at the 100 block. Upgrades in the plan: *16 new trees per block *new street lamps replacing the overhead "cobra" style lights *New concrete sidewalks, dyed with an attractive finish, with new handicapped ramps (dyed slightly different color) *New bike racks along the street, near the curbing *New parking meters (two per pole) Work Plan: Begin at 7 am end at 3:30 pm in effort to have the street "open" during peak business hours During sidewalk work, anticipate only 2-3 days of inconvenience per business, they will be laying plywood temporarily to enable entrance to business while sidewalk concrete is drying. Anticipate 5 days to complete sidewalk work per half block, up one side of the street, then down the other. New stainless steel replacement cellar utility vault doors are an option for business owners, District funding half the replacement costs Plan involves laying PVC electrical conduit to the new trees, but does not include the wiring. Inquiries email: streetscape@aol.com |

I drove down today, and it was open on the right side, but middle and left were closed... not sure how it was last night or tonight though... first time I've driven down south street in a while... I parked across from Jims steaks and put a quarter in the meter, and got 30 mins! Is this new?? I was expecting the old 15 minutes (which is still says on the meter)... is it maybe a day time thing, or are they actually being nice and giving you a whole half an hour now for a quarter?

I remember opening my credit card statement after a weekend in Georgetown and saying what the heck is "Chief Ike's Mambo Room.... Oh yeah....." Good time had by all according to the amount of the bill.
I wish we had some nicer bars on South St. With clean, operational bathrooms. That is my biggest complaint about South St bars. A shower curtain doubling as a bathroom door doesn't cut it. Oh, and toilet seats aren't OPTIONAL. |

and that's the problem. People moved/bought on South and are trying to change it... moved there for the scene...want to change it. "I moved next to this farm cause of the scenery but I demand we remove the animals and the farm" We're all for Public Bathrooms.
