I suppose it all depends on what you consider "clean up"? I am pretty much speaking aesthetically. The street and curb appeal would be that much nicer and would be not only great for tourists, making South Street a more attractive place to walk and wander around but also good for all of us on this blog that are residents. Regarding you saying that the "smell, grit, trash.etc." will remain, well if you walk down Broad, Chesnut or Market, or anywhere there is an abundance of restaurants the permitation of odors from kitchens and trash is very tough to handle. That is part of city life. All we can really do is limit it to the best of our abilities. IE- the restrictions put on the new Uncle Russells high end ice cream parlor on Hancock and South. They have to keep their trash inside until the private trash company come to pick it up. I guess well see how that works out... For the most part, again I agree with both of you... Where is Front B?? He creates a thread, or she creates a thread and disappears for 48 hours. |

The street needs repairs and cleanup. Once that is all done, the street needs the businesses and the visitors to respect and maintain that appearance. As Alesis pointed out, South Street businesses have the disadvantage of no rear access for deliveries and pickup of trash. That means all the garbage ends up on the curb every night for pickup. This can result in quite a disgusting mess especially from restaurants. The business owners and operators needs to recognize their obligations and ensure that the street stays clean. That means not putting out oozing overflowing trashcans and bags leaking garbage and boxes full of grease. The district pays for powerwashing and street sweeping on a regular basis which will hopefully maintain the soon-to-be cleanliness of the street assuming people don't abuse it.
The "cleaning" of South Street and the proposed "upscaling" of South Street are two completely different subjects. |

Lets just get the food industry businesses to respect the new landscape and keep it clean, that is all. I believe the repairs will be great for all.

Yes, its all the "food industry". This spoken by a person who can't even take a cardboard box off of his stoop.

My apologies. I meant two boxes. Filled with debris. And debris in front of their carport that is on south street.

It has always been my experience that the food businesses do their part to keep South Street, and most other streets, clean. It is in their own best interests to do so. Most have timely and regular pickups of debris generated by their businesses, and even do what they can to make their exteriors look at least presentable. Only a week ago, Beau Monde was power washing their exterior. I don't see too many residents doing that.

You are a real piece of work whoever you are. What in the hell is a car port? Cardboard boxes?? What kind of card board boxes are you speaking of? If i ever have material that is sitting around it is always inside my property and it is due to the projects that I am doing. Not sure what you are referring too. The trash is constantly all over the street from the restaurants in my area. Not all of them, but many of them. Its pretty sick. Not blaming every business owner, but if every business owner makes a concerted effort at fixing this hopefully the slackers will lift up the rear. Carports!! |
