I don't think that South Street is dirty, smelly nor do I find it unattractive. I wouldn't live by it if I thought otherwise. What I'm against is artificial forces changing the character of the neighborhood. Basic streetscape improvements are fine. Better lighting, a new sidewalk, planting more trees are fine. Polishing the strip in the manner that has been done to Georgetown and Manayunk is something I'm definitely against. For the most part, South Street isn't broken.

There are good parts to Manayunk too, you know, I'm sure if you tried hard you could come up with one or two positive examples, no? Quote:

I know french as well...if you'd quit sniffin' your flatulence in an effort to prove it doesn't stink, you'd quit gettin' high and know a joke when you heard one. http://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...rm=couche-tard

Oh wait, I see what you did there!
Anyways, it's just like in the thread on circulars ..... faced with a given situation, I have one response, you have another. I shrug and say "isn't funny how it takes all kinds", while you go on a page-long rant about how your way is the only right way and the rest of us are crazy and wrong. And then you call someone a 'tard. Nice. Ps - so you're saying that NO WHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD has anyone ever had a good idea that just maybe might be worth trying out here? "Coucher" means "to go to bed" or "to lie down", so Couche-Tard means literally "going to bed late". As the name of a convenience store chain, it's referring to them being open all night. To Sleep is "dormir". ![]() |

We can opine about our favorite hot dog toppings, as there is no right or wrong; however, when one wishes to reiterate their opinion while ignoring the law, or in this case inherent controls, they are merely spreading ignorance rather than knowledge. As with menus- You have no right placing a sticker on the property, as you are merely one of several renters in the building, and it is inherently the landowners responsibility as they are technically the one enriched or burdened. You will once again throw in your opinion saying nonono it bothers you so you don't know what I'm talking about-but if we went to court I'd win every time. Even if I ignored all of that-by your own admission, we have a different scenario in qv/bv than you do in fairmount regarding the posturing of delivery based restaurants. As with this section- I've said umpteen times that I support the streetscape idea, yet people like you, gladys, front, etc. seem to wish to dismiss me by saying I abhor change: However, redoing the streets will not "clean up" south street. Why do I know this? South Street is a unique commercial district which is solely reliant on curbside trash disposal, thus leading to the "smell, grit, trash, etc.". Quite simply, unlike other areas that have nooks and alleys for trash pickup, we have nowhere else than the curb to place our trash for collection. Additionally, the additional floors are filled with 100's of apartments with college kids and younger professionals, many of whom don't know how to tie their shoes let alone know what day trash is to be taken out. On top of this problem, south street is constantly losing public trash cans because of neighbor's public dumping of private garbage. If the streets dept. notices excessive home trash in the can, their solution is to remove it. Despite the businesses and landowners desire for trashcans on s. 4th between bainbridge and south, dicicco and the streets dept. have refused since they constantly get filled with private trash. This of course leads to more trashs on the streets whether or not they are freshly paved.
