Howard Eskin had a list of smoke free places on his website. But people couldn't be bothered to check that and make informed choices, hence the ban.

It doesn't surprise me to see this in a South Philly thread. Get fat and smoke till the cancer pours out of your orifices land.
Went to The Dive recently. Left instantly when all that trash started to burn up and I ain't talkin' paper. The waver bull$h!t is such a lame balancing act of pleasing both new and old Philadelphia. ![]()

Wow, tell us how you really feel.
Sorry you were so traumatized about the dive-too bad there aren't any other bars to go to in "New Philadelphia"(wasn't that in Buck Rogers?). I don't know if you know this or not, but skirting a smoking ban is not exactly a Philadelphia issue-anywhere that there is a smoking ban, there's bars still doing it. New York. Ireland. England. Philadelphia. WhoopyDing. I will, however, succumb to your rationale. If smoking, eating, and drinking cause us to be called the "cancer pours out of your orifices land", then what is France? And why do they have a longer lifespan than us when they celebrate the same vices rather than make drunken diatribes about them on phillyblog? It doesn't matter anyhow-the state house passed a law outlawing smoking at all bars, so the Philadelphia waivers will be thrown out soon enough. Quote:

You are in no way obligated to sit in a bar that wafts second-hand smoke in your direction. There are plenty of non-smoking bars for you types. |

WQstr,
On a serious note, The Dive has to have an exemption-they were just inspected recently, but they were not cited for any smoking related offenses.
