OT, but I was in NY Penn Station this weekend when I witnessed a father and his two little boys trying to navigate through the crowd. The boys kept saying, "excuse me, please." The father told them to stop because, "in America there is no 'excuse me,' you have to push right through." Nice, huh?

Glad I'm not the only one bothered by this. In such a small, cramped space, you'd think people would have the courtesy to leave the strollers and especially the dogs on the outside. Sorry, but I don't want your filthy mutt's nose in my leafy greens.

It's not always a question of courtesy though. I have a double stroller for my two kids. They're too big to be carried in slings, and in a crowd like that it would be really hard to keep them both nearby (and not underfoot) without a stroller. I don't always know what I want and can't see things if I walk on the outside and just duck in.

If my husband is around and can watch one or both kids, that's ideal. But often he is at work on Sunday mornings. So I try to go early, and we move pretty quickly through and really don't linger. But I don't see how I could get through there any other way.

I lingered around the area from shortly before 11am until about 1pm. There was no problems with crowds, strollers, or gossiping old ladies. It was busy, but it was easy to purchase things and sample others' items.

The mexican place took about 5minutes, and every other stand was approachable in seconds. There was even 5 minutes of down time to sneak in some conversation with Talula's Table and one of the cheese places.

Default I don't see how you have to apologize.

Mutts nose in your leafy greens? Gladly! I found a couple of worms in my bok choy! Give me a break.

Is the Local Neighborhood Farmer's Market supposed to be a quick in and out - let me get straight to my grub and get the hell out - kind of experience? Why not just go to Acme?

Personally, I love seeing all my neighbors. I love that kids and dogs and friends are gathering there. What are you in such a hurry for?

very good point -- but headhouse is a small space. i agree that one of the nicest things about the farmer's market (aside from the wonderful produce, food & goods sold there) is the sense of community it provides. unfortunately, it's a small space that can get really clogged up.

according to the woman at the food trust table, headhouse is their largest farmer's market -- which is sad, because by most standards, it's really not that big at all. nonetheless, i enjoy it and am grateful for the close proximity to where i live.

I had the Talula's Lamb and Raisin Sausage. It was very very good, the raisins were crazy moist and tasty. My only complaint was that I thought the texture was a bit odd. It had kinda of a knockwurst feel.

I think I prefer Sonny Diangelo's sausages, but want to try another Talula flavor before casting final judgment. I had sampled the Duck sausage but felt it was a little too silky for sausage.

Any reviews on the other flavors or contrary opinion on the lamb sausage?

But I don't think you could compare that weekend to a typical summer weekend when the market has all its vendors in place with loads of fresh produce. Those weekends are often packed and difficult to navigate.

As for mendocino's comments, there is a difference between shopping leisurely at a farmers market and not being able to actually walk because a group of 6 people is blocking the entire walkway to have a 10 minute conversation. I don't mind people looking for the nicest tomatoes, but I do mind people who are too inconsiderate to recognize that other are trying to walk through and shop.

Same thing happens all the time at the Italian Mkt. I shop there every week and I can't stand the entire extended family of tourists that goes into DiBrunos on a Saturday to gawk at the cheese and olives....but not buy anything. It's bad enough that there are 20 local people in there trying to buy cheese - you don't need Clark Griswold with wife kids, grandma, brother and co. behind him. Same thing on the streets - The tourists stop dead in their tracks to point at food. I'm not saying I don't like tourists, of course they're good for the economy - but they need to be more considerate of those of us actually shopping there for our weekly needs.

Then again - my biggest pet peeve has always been the person in any store who stops dead in their tracks w/ no concept of their surroundings.
