So true. I forgot how frustrating it is to shop with all of the strollers being pushed through and people just standing there eating free samples. I was going to buy something at the tellula table stand but gave up after waiting behind a group of old women who insisted on trying a sample of every meat and talking about it.

I find it easier to walk outside on the perimeter and just enter where I can near the vendor that I am looking for.

Besides that, I am very happy to have the headhouse square market

I do the same thing....and as soon as I have what I need I immediately exit out the side...

Quite frankly, I wouldn't mind it if, on nice days, they flipped things around and had the vendors on the inside facing out and the shoppers circling the perimeter. It would cut down on people jams.

I was about to say the same thing. I'm all for the ol' switcheroo.

BTW... roasting up one of those Mountain View chickens for dinner tonight... mmmm...

as someone who went for the first time this week - with a stroller - I hereby pledge to all at philly blog that i will henceforth be using a papoose and not a stroller!!!

i, too, hate rubberneckers anywhere and really dont understand people who are unable to realize that others exist and are trying to use the sidewalk/street/elevator/etc (eg walking down south street anytime). i am a believer that elementary school should be teaching children how to "walk" down a sidewalk (eg to the right unless you are in UK, and make way for others) or how to use an elevator (eg let people OFF before getting ON), and otherwise share the planet courteously. Many parents are apparently unable to sign their kids up for the general social contract.

Flipping the tables to point towards the outside won't work-saw it done with an event years ago. Gawkers are even slower because of the cobblestone tree lined perimeter, old people and ladies without appropriate shoes are complaining like crazy, and it has an effect of bouncing people on and off the sidewalk while trying to get by each other. This week the road was blocked off for entertainment across the street, but I guarantee that it won't happen every week-which causes a concern for crowds veering in and out of traffic.

Besides, doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of the headhouse? If people just want a plein air space then put it under 95, kinda like baltmore does with their market. In philly I guarantee that it will get half the traffic, be half as successful, and people will complain how dead it appears.

"Nope" and "same here".

I was really hungry, but I wouldn't have waited in that line even if they were giving them away for free.

ETA: I also felt the same way about the Talula's Table stand. The stuff looked good, and I wanted to check it out, but there was such a crowd of people around them pleasuring themselves that I decided to leave it for another day.

i've repeatedly recommended it to someone i know who works at the food trust, but they haven't gone for it yet. it's just got to work better than the way it is now.

p.s. if you guys want to get the good stuff you gotta get there when it opens. i was down at a little before 11 and it was crowded, but bearable. heading towards noon or 1 when everyone's thinking a nice sunday afternoon stroll and lunch, you're screwed.
