The irony, of course, is that the specific headhouse is america's oldest existing marketplace, and south street is america's oldest shopping corridor...but we must bow down to those who want to snuff it out in a false perception that their property values will improve. It doesn't help when shops like the afformentioned chef's market claim they are in society hill so that the neighbors don't think they are on south street-shhh, I won't tell anyone what your address is, George!

On a lighter note, don't forget that today is the farmers market on Passyunk and south.

Huh, well thanks for that geography lesson, Chef's Market!

I'm really looking forward to shopping at this farmer's market. It sounds like they're going to have a lot of great items there. As for Chef's Market, I never shop there anyway, so they're not losing any business from me!

went there yesterday and despite the rain, lots of customers. It's a great addition.

They should redesign the northeast corner of logan square, thin out the trees, and make it a great big market, like Union Square.

Half the food in the Chef's Market appears to be spoiled. I know it's 7 blocks away but I'm surprised Whole Foods hasn't put them out of business.

So far, it's the only place where I've seen champagne grapes, and the only reason why I go there now that I'm not attending school nearby.

i've seen them at whole foods recently, but i don't know if they're a regular item, or a one off kind of thing. they came in a plastic box and were on the same riser as the regular grapes. Also, check the italian market. I don't remember them specifically, but there is a stand that sells muscat grapes, perhaps they sell champagne grapes too. I have no idea the "name" of the stand, but it's run by an asian couple, and the first produce stand (coming from the north). It's the same stand that sells hand-packed spring mix & baby spinach in plastic bags.
