They never care. The same people who are so inconsiderate that they dump their trash and cigarette butts are probably the same ones who think they are the only ones at the farmers market....

While we all need to be considerate and not block people trying to work their way through the market, I disagree with the notion that people shouldn't stop to chat with neighbors there or even dig a cracker out of their purse for a kid. Geez. There is so little real, face-to-face ``community'' anymore. Everyone's working, pecking away on online forums, pushing in and out of grocery stores as fast as they can, rushing the family to and fro, going weeks or months without seeing neighbors.
I think it's wonderful that folks gather at Headhouse Square on leisurely Sunday mornings not only to fondle the fennel, but also to spend a minute or two chatting with neighbors (not vice versa). I might lose a little hope for civilization in the industrialized world if people are too hurried and cranky to appreciate that. It's also a bit ironic that folks shopping at a farmer's market, which kind of celebrates the notion of made-from-scratch, slower lifestyle, home cooking, would begrudge people taking their time, bringing their children and talking to friends and neighbors. ![]() Seriously though, I hope to get to the Headhouse Farmers Market this Sunday. And I promise to not block up the walkway. ![]()

Any chance of a well-supervised child-centered "integrated with the market" activity at the north side of the market that might give a parent a chance to shop unencumbered? Could I suggest that Aimee Oxley might have an idea or two? Or SSDA a kids class during market hours?

Parent shop unencumbered? I had to call my own personal assistant to pick up bags since I was completely encumbered with bags while only half way done with my shopping...where's my relief? If parents get babysitting then I want concierge services dammit!!!!
Oh, and plenty of booze. If I get it at the salon there's absolutely no reason why I shouldn't be getting it while seeking out cheese and snosages. Quote:
