They never care. The same people who are so inconsiderate that they dump their trash and cigarette butts are probably the same ones who think they are the only ones at the farmers market....

While we all need to be considerate and not block people trying to work their way through the market, I disagree with the notion that people shouldn't stop to chat with neighbors there or even dig a cracker out of their purse for a kid. Geez. There is so little real, face-to-face ``community'' anymore. Everyone's working, pecking away on online forums, pushing in and out of grocery stores as fast as they can, rushing the family to and fro, going weeks or months without seeing neighbors.

I think it's wonderful that folks gather at Headhouse Square on leisurely Sunday mornings not only to fondle the fennel, but also to spend a minute or two chatting with neighbors (not vice versa). I might lose a little hope for civilization in the industrialized world if people are too hurried and cranky to appreciate that.

It's also a bit ironic that folks shopping at a farmer's market, which kind of celebrates the notion of made-from-scratch, slower lifestyle, home cooking, would begrudge people taking their time, bringing their children and talking to friends and neighbors.

Maybe they should have Serious Shoppers Only Hour from like 10-11 or better yet 9-10 if the folks can set up that early, and then open the market to all those darn slow, touristy, kid bringing, dog totting, window shopping, chatty punks.

Honestly, it is an extremely tight space that gets very crowded. There is a difference between taking your time to peruse the market and being at a standstill because a group of 6 people has stopped in the middle of the walkway to have a 5 minute conversation....oblivious to the fact that no one can move because they have blocked the whole walkway. I take my time to pick out produce and stroll through the market, but when I cannot move because other people are being inconsiderate that is a very different story. You can stop and chat with your neighbors to the side or out on the cobblestones. No one is trying to turn this into a qwikie mart.

Seriously though, I hope to get to the Headhouse Farmers Market this Sunday. And I promise to not block up the walkway.

Default child-centered activity at the market?

Any chance of a well-supervised child-centered "integrated with the market" activity at the north side of the market that might give a parent a chance to shop unencumbered? Could I suggest that Aimee Oxley might have an idea or two? Or SSDA a kids class during market hours?

Parent shop unencumbered? I had to call my own personal assistant to pick up bags since I was completely encumbered with bags while only half way done with my shopping...where's my relief? If parents get babysitting then I want concierge services dammit!!!!

Oh, and plenty of booze. If I get it at the salon there's absolutely no reason why I shouldn't be getting it while seeking out cheese and snosages.

Default Pedicab?

Anyone besides Alesis having problems buying too much? I certainly am. Is the pedicab still in business?
