PENNSYLVANIA -- As reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer: "Neighbors of the proposed Foxwoods Casino had no legal standing to challenge the state's decision to build a slots-parlor near their homes, the state Supreme Court ruled yesterday.
"In a ruling that augurs ill for similar challenges by City Council, anti-casino activists and neighborhood groups, the Supreme Court yesterday dismissed an appeal from four civic associations opposed to the licensing of Foxwoods Casino on Christopher Columbus Boulevard in South Philadelphia. "The ruling, against Society Hill Civic Association, Queen Village Neighbors Association, Pennsport Civic Association and Whitman Council, was applauded by Foxwoods and SugarHouse casinos - the two partnerships licensed by the state to build in Philadelphia..." http://www.casinocitytimes.com/news/...ntentID=166432 http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?se...cal&id=5367391

This decsion by the PA SC was expected as is a ruling knocking the referendum off the ballot (when they get around to it) Seems the Suprem Court learned nothing from the pay raise issue and we will have to vote two more off this fall until they get the message.
That is why there is a multi pronged effort to relocate these two casinos and no one setback will stand or go unchallenged; at some point a Federal issue will arise and we will move to a US District court that cannot be bought |

It may be news to you, but the only municipality in Pennsylvania that is vehemently upset about the casinos (and by vehement, that means more than heckling on AM talk radio), would be Philadelphia. And in Philadelphia, that anti-casino sentiment is held only by NIMBYs living in District 1. Quote:

And this is why you should donate to PACCA, not PETA: In September, PETA made headlines in Vermont and across the nation for asking Ben & Jerry's ice cream to use human breast milk in their ice cream, instead of cow milk |

NIMBYs in District 1? I guess that explains the 17-0 City Council vote to put it on the ballot.
Rep Josephs has introduced the 1500 foor buffer in the State House of Reps; ALL Philadelphia delegation will support; NIMBys? I think not |

Z(ewe)r (and more than a few others) is/are bankrupt of ideas and anything that resembles cogent thought so he/they beg the bloggers to "stop feeding the troll"
I love it when the blowhards on this blog put their opinions on (untouched by fact or logic) and then run for cover when challenged (or resort to epithets and whining ("he's not faaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiir") I will only hit back and I don't attack unless attacked; get your facts staright and you have my respect if not my agreement. Show yourself to be grossly uninformed, wrong or worse, and stupid and expect to be called on it. Sports update; Clemens hit hard in first inning; Yanks down 1-0 |
