This allows you to park as far south as Bainbridge and as far north as maybe Walnut. #5 also goes about as far West as I think 10th.

As for moving, either go with the suggestion of the police signs or just park your truck on the street in front of that chained-off lot with the blinkers on. They actually put the chains up a few weeks ago after about the 3rd time someone dumped piles of trash in the lot. You might even get the owners permission to use the lot for the day. I have done so by emailing him at the address on the for sale sign (rlondon AT guesswho.com). Downeys doesn't have a loading zone on Front street, but if you are lucky you might get one of the 3 spots between Downeys and the vacant lot that allow 3 hour parking during the day. Worst case scenario, if you move during a weekeday, the metered spots on the East side of Front street are always available. It would only cost you a $1 an hour....cheaper than a ticket.
To clarify--residential parking permits are $35 for the first year, and $20 on renewal.

I called the streets dept the day before we moved in and they came through. Calling them may not instill in you a great level of confidence in their willingness to help, as they normally answer the phone in an extremely curt and gruff "Streets" and never really seemed to be listening or writing anything down. However, they did follow through by putting up a few "no parking signs" in front of our house that made plenty of room for the trucks. I called several days before our move-in date, then again at 2:45pm the day before.

As far as parking, you can get a temporary PPA sticker (I think it's good for two weeks?) until you get your license, etc updated with your new address. The QVNA lot has been great for me, if you don't mind walking several blocks. Good luck.

Thanks so much for all the help. We got in touch with the QV lot and have an application in the mail, and I'm going to call streets to avoid any problems (winging it and looking for parking) for the move-day.

Again, thanks for the speedy info, I look forward to being a neighbor!

Since you are really moving in to that address... bring a PenDot car registration change of address form filled in for the new address and show that to the PPA clerk at the PPA office on Market and 31st (? I think thats the address - I take the El to get there), along with an envelope with a stamp ready to mail it to PennDot.

The clerk will verify the address on the PennDot form and then insert it in the envelope to PennDOt and mail it for you. (the idea being if you are trying to scam a PPA sticker - you are also going have to scam PennDot with a fake address - leading to other potential legal issues)

That way you can get your sticker right then and there... also if you get your license changed at PennDot on Market St (across from Reading Terminal) you will have that proof of address as well.. Check with PennDot website as to what they want for a PennDot change of license "proof" of address.... I ferget what I had to do last time I did that.
