The neighbor has forgotten the name, but it's someone like Metro, a private developer with a good track record. He said that there was a discussion at the meeting about the use and that these probably would be luxury condos since the purchase price for the land alone is something like $18MM.

Yeah, but we have a lot of cast iron underground--it corrodes and decays. Ask the folks in Northern Liberties about "pipe bursts" and "Noah's Ark" They had one last year--it looked like the grand rapids hit NL/OC.We do have the big underground tunnels in places, but not everywhere. Our city forefathers should have copied London in their design. Subway-tunnel oversized sewer tunnels run underneath that city---and keeps it from flooding more than it does since the water table comes very close to the surface (like us). Those tunnels are lined with water resistant clay and inlaid with hard brick and stone. We have piping that's ancient and has to be fixed a lot. That's why the sewer smell is ever-present on many of our streets (especially mine). The methane hits ya whenever there is a new sinkhole developing--like we get every spring when sinkhole season starts.

And this is why you should donate to PACCA, not PETA: In September, PETA made headlines in Vermont and across the nation for asking Ben & Jerry's ice cream to use human breast milk in their ice cream, instead of cow milk |

I think it's true that a lot of the 19th-century infrastructure is aging out - there are examples of that everywhere. So, though the capacity once existed for 2+ million people, much of it may no longer be usable.

Ill believe this when I see it completed. Anything high end of that scale in Washington is many years out IMO.
Yea, BV lofts are expensive. Well, they werent when they were originally sold a few years ago. They were sold at prices that allowed 'investors' to rent them at close to break even rates. This is impossible in todays market: in Rittenhouse or SPhilly. How is Marine Club selling? How about 1352 Lofts? |
