I saw that too. Certainly looks like a loft-type conversion. Would do wonders for Washington Ave. Now if they could find some kind of good permanent use for the empty lots at Broad & Washington.

Isn't there going to be a circus or something at Broad and Washington? My wife and I rode our bikes by there a week and a half ago, and there were serious construction vehicles on that lot, plus, I thought I saw something in the paper this weekend about a strike by the carpenters union over something with this circus.

Am I mistaking the circus thing with someplace else?

No, you're right - Cirque du Soleil is there for the - what is it? 4th or 5th year running? It's great, but it's only temporary. In a few weeks it'll just be an empty lot with weeds and trash again.

I think the Girard Trust owns it so there is little hope unless they get a sweetheart deal. they also own 12tha nd market. they must channel the ghost of Sam Rappaporte (sp?). I'm excited to see that conversion. I've felt that Washington Ave turned a corner...and the right way. With immigrants making it what it is. I'd love to see the trolley tracks on 11th south of washington converted into a tree lined island. South Philly needs more green.

If you are talking about the U-Haul building that is a pretty cool location.

I was looking at the back of the building the other day and it is a semi-circle with windows that face CC.

I was thinking wow that would be a good place for condos....

I think it's the building next to the U-Haul building that has the fence around it, that eldondre is referring to. I could be wrong...

I, too, thought that the said warehouse would be a good residential fixer-upper. Great minds think alike I guess?

you are right. I think they are originally part of the same company, whatever it was before (cue Hal).

Cigar factory, then part of Southwark Sheetmetal. I'll have to defer to Hal for the specifics.
