Default Trattoria Alla Costiera

Should be opening anyday now:

Family run operation. Owner lived in Italy for many years. They have been working on it for almost a year now, so they seem pretty serious about making it work.

funny, i specifically came to the site to see if anyone had an update on this place. Looking forward to trying this out.

FYI, here's the linked link from city paper (maybe an ad?)

Trattoria Alla Costiera 769 E. Passyunk Ave., 215-833-1543
Tammaro Caso's Neopolitan BYO should be ready for business before the holidays. Caso and his family ran a local restaurant by the same name a decade ago before he decided to move to Italy. His new incarnation will celebrate the old country: He crafts everything from mozzarella to pasta in-house, 'cause "that's the way an Italian restaurant should be." Bite This: Caso serves his Orecchiette Alla Tammaro (shrimp, broccoli rabe, white beans, celery and garlic) in an almost brothlike sauce.

Default It's Open

I walked past about an hour ago. It was full of diners, and the kitchen odors wafting out onto Catharine smelled wonderful. Will definately try.

Man that restaurant name is so familiar. I'm sure I must have gone to the original. Someone jog my memory on it? Where was the original Trattoria ala Costeria and was there anything distinctive about it? Just want to shake these cobwebs loose and remember.

Brick,

The original was La Costiera at 11th & Oregon. Had a mural of the Amalfi Coast (the "costiera"). It was wonderful...everything homemade, including the bread (although after they got popular, thanks to a rave from Jim Quinn -- remember him? -- the bread stopped being homemade. But it was still good.) The food was fresh and delicious, and the family that operated it were just charming. (I recognize Tammaro's name.) We live in Chestnut Hill, and La Costiera was a destination for us. Can't wait to go to the new one.

Hope that helped the cobwebs.

Default Trattoria La Costiera

To all who were wondering about Trattoria La Costiera (BYOB, Passyunk & Catharine): it's great. Tammiano & his wife Roseann are warm and welcoming and the food is wonderful (Tami does all of the cooking). Try the tiramisu (best I EVER had) or the fruit tart (both made by Roseann).

I'd like to give them a big thumps-up too. Delicious food in huge portions, excellent and friendly service, gorgeous dining room, wonderful atmosphere. My friends and I were all very happy customers.

The food is definitely good, but I questioned the need for another Italian restaurant with a town with so many good ones.

But in other news...

I heard that they were trying to get a license for outdoor tables but the neighbors were giving them a hard time.

Considering that someone was SHOT and KILLED around the corner a few weeks ago, you would think the neighbors would want diners/pedestrian life on the street to monitor what is going on.

Anyone know about this?
