Default Queen Village Neighbors Association meeting tonight 7:30pm

At St. Philip Neri Church on Queen Street between 2nd and 3rd. I'll be there tonight. If I get a chance I'm going to find out if they ever were able to cash the big huge Fumo check...

I'm glad I went last night. Actually I was not sure if I could attend but when I went to pickup my dry cleaning after work yesterday I saw a flier concerning a proposal being set forth by the QVNA to make Christian St. a one way street, going east of all things. So I had to go to voice my disapproval of that foolish plan. Much to my surprise there were well over 200 hundred people there last night (most meetings fail to get 30 people each month)!

It seems that some residents who live on Christian St. do not like the fact that Christian St. is the main artery used by those driving from the south on Columbus Blvd. who want to come into the Queen Village/Bella Vista/South St. area. They want to divert traffic up to Washington St. and make Christian St. 1 way going east only from 6th St. to Columbus. I would say that nearly 80% of the room was against this plan. I stood up and stated my 2 cents that Columbus already backs up at times from the I-95 ramp to Christain St. because of people making a right onto Christian. I also added that making everyone turn right onto Washington would cause further delay. Catherine St. is already a one way street west for most of the city except right at Columbus where they made it one way east for some reason.

It got very heated at times last night, but it appears as if the board of the QVNA will seek options to study the current traffic concerns before recommening some sort of 8 month trial period of making Christian a one way street, which is what they were seeking to do before the tremendous public outcry against such a proposal.

Next month the meeting will take placeo n the 3rd Thursday of July at 7:30 pm at St. Philip Neri Church on Queen Street. Hopefully then I can ask about the Fumo check. They could use that money to fund the study if they ever see it...

Default christian st dispute

i'm a bit baffled by residents feeling the need to make it one-way. i drive to and from work every day during rush hour (joy) and there is always far more traffic on washington than christian. i've never seen more than 4-5 cars at the light at christian/moya/2nd.

personally, i take christian to get home from work because there are so many lights on washington and they are ridiculously timed. i feel it is used more by locals than anyone else.

Making Christian Street one-way is a stupid idea that will only cause more traffic congestion on other streets. Accessing Bella Vista/Queen Village from the waterfront is already difficult enough, why make it even worse?

Why did the handful of individuals who want it one-way move onto Christian Street in the first place? Why didn't they move to a smaller, quieter street if that's what they wanted? Instead they want to inconvienence everyone else because of their shortsightness.

I've been away for awhile. Sorry to take so long to get back to the question about why some citizens on Christian want it one way. The main reason is parking and additionally some od the citizens are tired of the trucks driving on Christian (but they are not allowed to anyway and making it one way does not address this issue). Most of the residents who want it to be one way are old timers that have lived on Christian for 20-30 years or longer. They remember when it used to have lights. They are also upset that all of the revitilization has produced shells being turned into great houses with garages (which limits the amount of on street parking). The thing that they forget is that these people who move into the neighborhood with cars were going to have to park them somewhere (either in their garage, or take up a space on the street).

Anyone complaining about redevelopment and revitalization is your typical brain-dead Philadelphian who lives in the past and is the reason the city cannot be a progressive and competitive 21st century city.
