Default Bella Vista: So Far So Good!!

Hello to Bella Vista and non-BV Bloggers alike:

I OFFICIALLY moved in this past weekend and was immediately astonished to find that my neighbor (whom I had never met until I pulled the Uhaul up to the apt) was willing to help me unload and lug all my stuff up two flights of STEEP stairs!!

What kind of place IS Philly where someone is willing to do THAT!! I was immediately infected with this generosity and was able to return the favor yesterday by helping them lug a washer into the basement.

Many thanks again to the bloggers (can I continue to use that word without annoying anyone?) who directed me to Bella Vista during my apt search. The civility of the 'hood and its conveniences (the Italian Market, and easy-access transportation, for example) are mind-boggling. Not to mention the biggest perk of all: being a stone's throw from Isgro's bakery!!

So just a couple of questions about the day-to-day of Bella Vista:

1. Is there a Citizen's Bank branch in Bella Vista? If so , where?

2. Is there a hardware store in Bella Vista?

3. When is trash day?

4. And why is the Bella Vista/Queen Village section of the Blog yet to "take off" with posts?

As always, any help/info is appreciated.

Here's what the CB branch locator shows (not sure this will work):

http://www.citizensbank.com/tools/branch/mqlocator.exe

There don't appear to be any in South Philadelphia, at least not in your neck of the woods. The closest would be in the 800 block of Walnut St. Do I remember your saying that you were going to be working at Penn? If so, there's one over there too, on 34th just north of Walnut.

There is a hardware store on South 10th Street between Locust and Spruce Streets.

There is also a Home Depot on Columbus Boulevard below Washington Avenue; a Lowes will open later this year near Front and Snyder.

3. When is trash day?
Call the Streets Department at 215-686-5560.

Probably because alot of the posts are being posted in the Center City and South Philadelphia groups (Bella Vista is in South Philadelphia, not Center City).

I don't think that you are correct to say that Bella Vista is in South Philly instead of center city. In some of it's latest literature, the Center City District presents an expanded definition of center city. The center city district has, in effect, annexed Bella Vista (and other) surrounding areas. People living in Bella Vista live in center city! I mean aren't people who live at 10th and bainbridge (technically Bella Vista) going to have a lot more in common--including problems--with people who live at 10th and Lombard than they will with people living at 2500 S. 10th??!!! of course!

You placed this incorrect information in a number of places (why do people feel they have to post stuff three or more times - do they think it will be more correct if they post it lots of times - sort of the big lie syndrome).

Realtors like to say Bella Vista is in CC. South of South Street, South Philly. There has to be a line somewhere, Bella Vista just happens to be on it.

I don't know the answers to any of your questions, unfortunately ... I just wanted to say welcome. That's probably the coolest thing I've heard in a very long time, that your neighbor just volunteered to help you move in. That is really really nice.

Glad it all worked.
