Hi,
Just moved to 6th and Catharine last week, it's great..... question 1: what is the more inexpensive of the local grocery stores to go to? question 2: Ok, this is embarassing--anyone know the official trash day around 6th and Catharine? I still can't figure it out and haven't had a chance to ask anyone. Also, is there a day for recycling? (I could probably search the web for this info but you guys are always so nice and I am lazy. )questions 3: best walking-distance bar/place to meet normal single guys? (I am a single 26 yr old educated professional gal.) Thanks all! |

I used to simply head south from Old City (through QV) on my way to the Pathmark or Acme (I hated the SuperFresh on 5th). Pathmark was always too crowded but had decent prices and huge selection. Then, I could get on a bus and go right back to Old City.
Now if you're driving, there's probably a whole world I never knew that opens up to you. |

trash schedules are posted on www.qvna.org I think under schedules...at least street cleaning is there. Sounds like your walking only so the place across from whole foods, super fresh?, and then the before mentioned one up on 5th street. There are places further down delaware ave if you feel like huffing it.
I generally get stuff at trader joes, which can be really cheap for some basic food stuffs, reading term. market and whole foods running to super fresh for things that I don't care about the quality of and just want real cheap. Essene market is on 4th and monroe. They are not cheap and are only open till 8 or 9 pm but good in a pinch. Ton of bars near you if your looking for boozed up single guys. I can't really comment on the matter though.

If you have a car, you should probably venture out to the Super Fresh on Delaware Ave. or the Snyder Plaza ShopRite for your bigger stock-ups. Otherwise I agree, use the Italian Market, supplemented by Whole Foods at 10th & South.

You mean the one on Del. Ave.? Well, it's a lot bigger, cleaner, nicer - more, I hate to say this, suburban. The one at 10th & South feels like a grungy big city store.

Yeah I go to the market a lot as well. Fresh pasta, produce and seafood. Much better to go early I think. Dibrunos is good for cheese obviously. I think you can get whatever you need down there though I haven't seen a good bread place yet. There is even a mexican grocer that sells canned stuff as well as fresh peppers etc. There are a few more on washington avenue as well.
