The funniest thing came the other day, maybe it was Tuesday, when I reached a live person at the Streets Dept. I was told: "Your street is not in the City of Philadelphia, so why would we plow your street?"

That prompted to me quickly ask, "Really? Sheesh. Quick, please tell me which county I live in now so I can pay my property taxes to the correct taxing body!" They didn't laugh. Then I asked, "So why would the the city send out property tax bills each year to me if I didn't live here?" Still no comment. Then I asked, "Do you have a current map of the city, or one from 1820?"

Finally the yahoo agreed that I did live in the city. The street never was plowed or salted.

Emily Street has one travel lane and one parking lane - with about a foot in-between the two. In our area it's cut-off at 13th and 10th, so it's not exactly a through-street.
HEY!!!! That's my street's mini front end loader. no wonder my street didn't get plowed. They were too busy on yours.

You bastards!!!

What is everyone going to do with the 9 loaves of bread, 12 gallons of milk, 85lbs of chicken, 6 cases of bottled water, and 4 tons of rock salt they all bought?????????

Oh wait, I'm not an idiot. I realized I live in a major city where I could always walk to a store, could survive the 1 day it might take to plow the streets, and where the temperature never stays low long enough to freeze my pipes.

What a hoot! You're right - I've always wondered about the mass paranoia at the grocery stores before a "snow emergency". I imagine people, huddled at their windows, watching the snow while they nervously stuff themselves with pieces of fresh bread washed down by gallons of milk.

The corner store near me (Joe Joe's) was opened throughout the storm and did a brisk business selling everything from bread to strombolis. Who needs to wait in crazy lines when you can order out?
