My husband and I went to Kildare's a few days after it opened. We sat at the bar upstairs and the servers/bartenders were incredibly friendly. It was a Monday night, and Quizzo was set to start at 9 (ending 1am!). I asked who was hosting Quizzo (I think it's actually called "Guiness Pub Trivia") and they found out for me. I told them that I host Quizzo at Bridget Foy's down the street on Tuesdays, and mentioned that both the Dark Horse and the New Wave have Quizzo on Monday nights, and they actually said that maybe they should change their quiz night. They want to be "good neighbors" and not interfere with the other bars/specials in the area. I was very surprised by that.

I'd rather spend my time and money at an independently owned neighborhood spot, but I think Kildare's is a nice addition to QV/South Street. The clientele leaves a bit to be desired, but what can you do?

Default meeting at Kildares on Monday @ 6 pm re: noise, etc.

Did anyone else get notice of the QVNA meeting at Kildares to discuss the issues?

I have been watching Kildare's progress very closely. They have sound proofed the building to the point that even when you stand next to it, you still cannot hear the band playing. As TimK stated, they have bouncers out at closing to make sure the guests leave the area promptly and quietly. Police officers have been out every weekend, and have told me they only had one problem, which was immediately disbanded when they threatened to arrest the guy.
Alot of Kildare's visitors do go to wawa after the bar. Guess what? This is now Wawa's problem, just as it is Lorenzo's problem when loiterers are out front eating their raw pizza! Kildare's cannot be held accountable for the actions of their patrons once they entered another business.
QVNA should address why they have not done anything about true nuisance bars, like Monte Carlo and Tories. Huh? These upscale bars are a problem? YES!!! I have repeatedly told QVNA of problems at Torie's and Monte Carlo only to be dismissed without inquiry. The fact is that while these "restaurants" cater to upscale clientele during the day, at night they turn into a cesspool of thugs and underage vagrants that break into cars, damage property, and are louder than a fat tuesday's mardi gras circa 1998. Torries also has an after hours club, which I have watched operate until 6am without the neighbors saying anything. Yet the QVNA wishes to show their little brass jewels against Kildare's. And while QVNA is still busy trying to make Christian street oneway so that two board members will have less traffic in front of their homes, Kildare's raised over 10,000 dollars for neighborhood historic preservation-hmmm, who's being the good neighbor?
This is exactly why I can't stand the Queen Village Numbnut Ass-ociation. They are consistently misinformed on the issues, and attempt to determine the will of 7000 residents through a few idiots that wish to have amish country living while existing in a city of over 1.5million people. They wish to complain that they moved into an area that has been a commercial area since Ben Franklin walked the streets, yet are surprised when they get to the big bad city that parking, crime, and noise are a fact of life in any land mass that is populated beyond 175,000.
But these are the same people that blame south street for their ills, when the 3rd district police statistics plainly show that a majority of breakins, muggings, theft, etc. is coming from the residents of the section 8 housing that they moved right next to.

I didn't find out details about it until it was too late. The update I got from The director of the SSHD was as follows:

Quote:
The noise issue is with the buildings next door. As expected, Dave Magrogan came prepared to offer complete cooperation and has already engaged a consultant to address the problem. He handed out his card with his cell phone on it and said, "if we don't make it right you call me directly." Everyone left the meeting in a very positive frame of mind.

The most recent example would ironically be a night I was coming from Kildares. I took my employees out, and left at about midnight. As soon as I walked outside, I couldn't believe the amount of noise I heard. I was further surprised that it was not from within Kildares, but nearly a block away at Monte Carlo! When I got up to the area, I counted 135 people trying to get into the "nightclub", with more cabs and cars coming to the spot. I started videotaping it with my phone. As soon as the bouncer saw us looking, he told everyone to go up, without checking IDs or anything...alot of these kids looked like they were 18-19, not 21. We watched in amazement as an already full bar just got stuffed with more people than I'm sure it could legally hold. I am not exaggerating when I say that the second floor was so busy, that you could see people's butts pressed against the window panes bulging out. A minute or two later, people started opening the windows and sitting on the sils to get an extra inch of breathing room.
I live on Front Street, so I walk by 2nd and South every night when I'm coming home from my office. At least once a month I see groups(not just one or two people)fighting like dogs near that place. They all seem to have the wannabe mobster mentality, with the fights generally starting over a cab due to a "cause you don't know who I am-no YOU don't know who I AM" mentality. The worst was Halloween night, when I saw about 12-14 people get in a melee suitable for the perceived image of Fat Tuesday's.
My previous argument cited that Kildare's monitors its clients' exit, and if the people go to wawa and then make noise, its not Kildare's fault. The contrary is true for Monte Carlo. They do not have a single worker outside, and the partygoers will hang out on 2nd and south yelling, screaming, and in some cases flashing cars, with no interest of moving along to any other business.
The other problem is that they do radio promotions where they'll have the radio van in front of their place. This directly violates ordinances set since the ill fated Mardi Gras...but since they're monte carlo and not the "party bar", they get away with it.
There have been alot more examples, but this will give you a general overview of what I'm talking about.
