It's pretty hilarious I think. I had no idea that place was Kama Sutra. I always wondered out loud what was up with that place, was it closed or was it open...
I'm pretty sure we could find businesses that challenge someones 'family focused' ethics around any random borders in NYC in about 10 minutes. I find the whole idea of that to be pretty silly and I don't really believe it. I think a large clean bookstore would do well on south street, especially a a large chain unfortunately. Would love a strands there.

However, Alesis, it sounds to me like you have a beef against Club Kama Sutra. Do you have any proof to back up your allegations? |

Maybe Im just oblivious - but I always wondered what was up with that Senior Rattler's sign and no apparent restraunt there...
Heck - Ive live in the area (inside that 5 block radious) for some 5 years and never knew it was there. Then again the recent string of posts in a differnt thread has me wondering about the "tarot card reader" places now... |

There have been two that said yes, they were expecting me. I asked for my beverage, and asked if they ran my credit card through for approval yet. They said, "But you just arrived and didn't give us your credit card." If they would know I was coming, they should have known the credit card number, or at least had half a mind to call and tell me I would be in their shop on such a day and time, and if I would share my credit card number. That's my perception of folks who say they can see the future. An interesting note: Not one ever said anything about the beverage comment -- can you guess what I want to drink?

South St is a tourist destination. When tourists see Starbucks, they go in. Everytime I walk past both Starbucks on South, they are packed with what appears to be a mix of both visitors and locals. That is good business my friend.

I have no concerns about kama sutra, other than they violated local ordinances, and were therefore were open illegally. Now that they have to apply for the proper zoning permits, I am stating the facts as to why they will not be approved. I did not suggest a single opinion about the club other than to suggest that they will not receive the occupancy permits for the facts stated. If you need proof for anything I said, you may:
-Look up the census 2000 data to verify residential economic impact -Request a Business Development Ecomonic Survey from the South Street Headhouse District which provides accurate figures for tourists and regional economic impact -Contact Howard Lander-The developer that was brokering a deal with the bookstores, and was about to sign a lease when their researchers provided him with the denial due to Kama Sutra -Arrange a meeting with Gina Pierantozzi, the South Street Retail Coordinator, who is familiar with why it has been such a challenge to get the 7xx and 8xx blocks of south street occupied with businesses. You can look Mr. Lander up in the phonebook(H Lander and Associates), and Gina may be reached through the district office at 215-413-3713 As for the quality of used bookstores, your opinion suggests that you are not a fan-that is perfectly ok. They have survived for over 15 years, which would tend to suggest that a considerable amount of people do enjoy them, otherwise they would of been out of business years ago. |
