I can recommend Dr. Chris and Dr. Bryan at the two Modern Eye offices (University City and Center City). They are optometrists. From personal experience I can tell you that a good optometrist is all you need. Optometrists are like a general practitioners of the eye - besides being vision correction specialists they are trained to look for problems or the start of problems. An ophthalmologist's emphasis is on diseases of the eye and surgeries. Often in an ophthalmologist's office, vision correction is handled by an assistant. A good optometrist will do a full work up (the same as an ophthalmologist, testing for glaucoma, etc.), is more affordable and will refer you to an ophthalmologist if there are problems.
