...our beloved City Hall, shackled, rusted and infested by the Dishonorable John F. Street and his in-bred, democratic crownies & goons.
Unless the Feds and Justice Dept. can terminate them, City Hall will be under this seige for another 4 years. ![]()

First and foremost, I'm not trying to start a fight. I just want that to be clear from the start.
That said, why start a thread like this, Tim? Everyone who follows the site probably knows your, and a number of other posters, displeasure over the result of November's election. There's nothing wrong with being upset, be it because your guy lost, the guy you really dislike won, or whatever the reason. I don't even mind people stirring up the hornet's nest if it's meant to spur on a discussion. There are a couple on the boards that come to mind. Yeah, Zog, I'm looking at you. ![]() This, however, doesn't seem to have a point other than to say, "It still sucks and I just want to tell everyone it sucks...again." What does that accomplish? Nothing, except get more negative comments from either side of the issue, which does nothing to help the whole concept of trying to work together to actually bring about some change. It's over. Deal and move on. Do something positive or constructive towards making a change instead of harping on the fact that it didn't change last month. |

Well John, you make an absolutely positive, good point, that can't be argued with.
But being a mod, you must also be aware that you will have to deal with sentiments that don't get resolved for some reason or another. And you may even have to deal with some posts that are pointless, after all they come from humans that exhibit a lot of strange tendancies. And probably a good idea to deal with them is to follow something of a chain of command in such situations. For example: you may want to private message someone first before delivering a rather terse statement out in the open. [Where you get just as many senseless trailing statements that add to the deadweight such as "YEAH" or "TRUE THAT" or "THANK YOU!".] Also this saves making a mockery out of the person that may be donating or contributing to your "business", and losing that person. Then if the person continues to make pointless threads, then bring it to a higher level and out into the open. Continuing on, perhaps consider moderating (which could be analogous as censoring) the forum to cut out the dead wood. And finally, disable the account, if they do indeed turn into forum violations continue. I'm sure you're a good administrator and don't need someone else telling you how to do your job technically or diplomatically. That said, I don't think what I did was so blasphemous. Perhaps it really didn't have much of a point, other than provide a little dark humor, but if it is pointless, then people don't have to respond to it, and it will fall down onto page 2, then 3, etc. and so on. The picture is hosted on my own server, so it's not really causing damage here to the servers. And frankly, while some of you may not like to hear it, there are just some things that some people will just never get over. It's not so life-threatening that it doesn't really drain their lives, but the challenge is to not let it drain yours. And that challenge no one can control other than yourself. Speaking for myself, this issue really don't burn in me so that it makes me blind to other things. And I may choose not to turn some kind of blind eye to my feelings of John Street, so that I can somehow be productive in some kind of other way. I may, and seemingly will, choose to stand firm on my feelings and use him as an object to vent any type of frustrations I have, or use Street as an object to make humorous (light and dark) statements about. And that's good for me. Just as its good for any others who choose to stand this way. And it doesn't make it wrong in itself; althought it may be to certain others and their views. Whether or not it is for anyone else, I can't control. They can choose to ignore me if they'd like. They could go along with any type of humor I attempt to make with the situation. I don't know, and however they choose is fine with me. I'm not a sore loser type, as I've moved on from other things that didn't work out my way. But I am intelligent enough, so I believe as I think I've got a pretty good track record, to recognize something for what it is, and call it for what I believe it to be. And this is one of them. It's called having an opinion, sticking to your guns, and expressing the situation. Everyone has their slant on things, which is what these forums are for; we sure see plenty sides of issues around here. Some things may be fun to deal with, others may be tough. But the best thing is to get it out into the open, let others consider and decide what they think, and hopefully some intelligence and realization will come about on both sides, in some kind of productive way. Again, as a moderator, I'm sure you already understand this, don't you? Kapiche? (i have no idea how to spell that! but you've all heard that b4, right?! lol)

For starters, I'm only the mod for the Sports forum. In every other forum, I'm just a regular poster. I can't delete, merge or edit threads.
Thankfully, I haven't had to make any mod decisions in Sports yet, but if/when it comes up, I have an idea of how to handle it. So, I didn't make my comments as a moderator. I made my comments as a poster who's sick of reading posts that are nothing more than whining. If you want to contribute money to help the site's servers, great. However, I don't believe Jennifer, Wil or any of the others that head the site equate giving money with gaining special treatment. In fact, that sounds quite a bit like "Pay to Play" in a way, doesn't it? Also, which way do you want it? Am I supposed to keep things private at first ("you may want to private message someone first before delivering a rather terse statement out in the open.") or do I put it out to the public ("But the best thing is to get it out into the open, let others consider and decide what they think, and hopefully some intelligence and realization will come about on both sides, in some kind of productive way.")? Yes, you're entitled to your opinion. I don't believe I said otherwise. I'm just tired of seeing it, and other's opinions, repeatedly and it got to the point where I felt the need to say something about it. Now it's out of my system and I should be able to go back to keeping my comments to myself. |

Well just to be clear, John - i wasn't making any allusions to any kind of "pay to play" here - i did say 'donate or contribute' ... which can or can't be any kind of pay...it could simply be participation. either way, they are like customers - treat with respect.
also, that 'which way do you want it?" thing? sounds like you're comparing apples to oranges here. i don't make the connection. oh well. could just be silly me. lol anyways...i must ask...since i can't argue about making something positive come out of this. you guys asked that question on november 5th. has there been any ideas out there yet? perhaps i didn't see that part of the discussion. lets inject some productiveness here (see, don't you love how you find that in the oddest places??!): what positive ideas have been floated out there so far?

Oh somebody, please.... call the wwwwwwwwwwwwahmbulance.
Geeeeeeeeez..... the election is over. Ok, you don't like Street. We got that. But he won. Your guy lost. Are you guys gonna hold your breath and cry for the next four years? I mean, really. How productive is it to whine about it every five minutes?
