Yeah if we can't have a good job we want cheap good wine, maybe even subsidized access to it. Questions I have as a newcomer.
1. Why do I have to pay three bucks to come into PA from Jersey? We ain't all that. I think Kansas charges a toll on 70, the only toll on the entire road I believe, basically it's highway robbery in my ignorant of facts opinion. Are we as bad as Kansas? 2. What's with all the road work going on in middle of nowhere pa, are we just doing that stuff to keep people employed in appalachia? It certainly doesn't make it easy to get from one end of the state to the other. Leading to the next question... 3. Where's the high speed corridoor between PGH and Philly? How come we can't even effectively support commerce between our two largest cities? 4. Can we create a number that motorists can call when they witness people throwing cigarettes out of their cars on state roads?

Rendell will be stuffing his face the whole time, so your discussion will have to be quick.

1. tolls are the port authority. like many places, they switched to 'one way' tolls because most people go both ways, and it saves a lot of time to only do the toll once. you can get around it by using another bridge (e.g. the Tacony-Palmyra, one of the bridges further north)
2. The answer is Bud Shuster. "the powerful chairman of the House Transportation Committee who specializes in pork barrel." 3. thankfully a few years ago the state upgraded the rail system for freight so double-high containers can now go through. doesn't help everything however. do note that PGH & PHL are very different worlds, across the mountains and in a different river drainage system. Wine: It's called the union. PLCB is supposed to sunset (or was last time I heard about it), but of course it's brought back to life every time that happens. Don't know if Rendell has much control but it's a good question. Competiveness: Another good question. And unions are a big factor, but not the only one. What are his plans? |
