Default A City Divided (Graphic of wards won in the Mayoral race)

Thought this was interesting to see. Street's "brothers and sisters" really are running this City.

Oh, well... you lick your chops and you move on. I'll be gone from the city before Street finishes this second term.

Street obtained 98% of the Black vote. Katz only obtained something like 74% of the White vote.

Bottom line... it was a result of the Bush/Ashcroft conspiracy theory combined with the division of racial lines.

This election sends a strong message; for the rest of us who have stayed in the city and put up with the corruption and the crime and the taxes, it's time to get out! For the first time, I now realize that this city is beyond saving, that the Democrats will NEVER be voted out of office because of the huge number of blacks who will vote for ANY bro against ANY white and the white Democrats in CC & CH who need to 1. ease their liberal guilt by voting for any black candidate and 2. vent their blind hatred of Republicans by voting against anyone running under that party's label.

Philadelphia is simply beyond all hope. If you were a corporate CEO thinking of relocating, would you choose Philadelphia or Conshohocken? If you were an honors graduate of Wharton, would you stay here or move to Boston? I've spent years hoping for a turnaround here in the city but I've finally wised-up. I'm leaving. Sometime in the next three years I'll be somewhere else. I'm just one person but I don't believe I'll be alone.

Typical. Show 3/4 white people voting for Sam Katz, and it is spun like some non-significant percentage. Sam Katz was able to capitalize on the racial divisions just as much as Street was able to. He played to his white voting base just as Street played to the black voting base. Please, let us stop fooling ourselves into thinking that all was well when it came to race in Philadelphia before this mayoral race, or even before Street became mayor the first time. Anyone ever noticed how segregated our neighborhoods and schools are? Anyone notice the number of racial incidents in this city BEFORE Street became Mayor?

Yes, I'm already exploring the idea of where I will be going. There will be absolutely no love lost moving out of this wasteland.

It's a City that prefers to keep itself divided (amongst the "bruthas and sistas" and amongs partisan lines), which makes it no healthy place to live.

It's a City that keeps shooting itself in the foot. We had an opportunity with a man (Katz) who had great, fresh ideas to bring this City together.

Yet now we're stuck with a partisan racist who thinks there is no need for healing what divides our citizens. Check this article out: http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/7185828.htm

It's a City run by partisan corrupt democrats who revel in the pay-for-play culture and hoodlum thuggishness against all that disagree with it.

It's a City with a government out of control. Not a government that is here to serve its citizens, but a government who believes it's citizens are here to serve it.

Philadelphia is a sad town that shows no effort to redeem itself, and it seems that we're best to cut our losses now and leave.

I hope all you guys get a week or two to digest everything and stay. Philly has been fun up until now because of the relationships your have made with people and the friendships you have made here.

I want to make more friends in Philly, and many of you on here are the types of people I like to come across on a daily basis, I sincerely hope there will not be a major outflux, b/c this city is in trouble.

We aren't attracting enough new residents to stave off regular amounts of people leaving the city, so what would we do if people actually had a good reason to go?

I wonder what the fall out will be...I should call a few realtors in a couple of weeks to see if more people are calling in to sell than usual.

Do you think that this election has brought some of the racial tensions to the forefront or did it ignite them?

Before anyone jumps ship and assumes the worst, shouldn't we at least give the Mayor a chance to act on his campaign promises?

We need to set up fences like Isreal along the divide. Let Street deal with them and Katz with us. The Red areas support the blue areas with our taxes. I'd love to see an actually break down of tax revenue along the lines.

Zog you are so dead on.

That's why they can mobilize the vote...they know that if one of their own doesn't win, they're screwed!! God forbid the city spend some of the money that we contribute to the pot in OUR areas.

When is the last time you heard of street doing an initiative in manayunk, roxborough, or chestnut hill? NEVER! There are no abandoned cars in those areas b/c the people there care so much about their neighborhoods that they don't allow that behavior to fester.

I don't know...I mean street supports a lot of important initiatives that don't directly affect me, but are necessary, I am struggling between being self-interested (which is fine) and caring about the less fortunate.

I always think of the few examples of people that make it out of the welfare / ghetto cycle w/ no help and wonder why others can't do it themselves? This makes me not want to see so much of my tax $$ go to correcting issues in poorer areas.

I almost voted against the universal healthcare question just because I am sick of being taxed by this city, but I changed it b/c there is just a small part of me that is a nice enough guy top realize that some people need a hand up.

I'm still fuming!

With emotions still high, it will certainly take time for things to settle down, but is dividing the city into US vs. Them really the answer?
