Default The calm before the storm

Well it's almost 8:30 now - polls have closed - people (including myself) are on their way to what they expect will be "victory" parties. Or just parties to celebrate their hard work, should their candidate not make it to the top.

The media has imposed a very tight blackout on news since early afternoon - when the last we heard, katz's "favorite" areas had higher turnout levels (50+%) than street's "favorites" (around 40%).

Actually we heard a brief report at 7:55 tonight from Channel 6, saying the polls were about to close, and Street has met his expected turnouts, while Katz has exceeded his.

It's still anyone's guess how tonight will playout, and the silence is deafening!

So we can use this as a support thread, an information-as-it-is-leaked thread, or just a ranting thread.

Either way this turns out tonight, it probably will be on the late side, and a lot of hurt feelings will occur on the side that didn't quite make it to city hall in 2004.

It'll be interesting to see if corruption/violence/$ will win or if good ol' hard work will. Will it be a battle of the races? Will the battlelines be drawn between each party?

Either way, may there be light at the end of this tunnel for everyone, as the whole country (if not world) is watching us with interest.

Default Meaningless results

Here was a set of fairly meaningless results that caught my eye at the bottom of the screen on Channel 6 about 15 minutes ago:

Katz 65%
Street 35%

...with 1% of precincts reporting.

Ah, if only it would stay that way.

10% counted and the percentages are the same as at 7%.

would be cool if they broke it out by district in real time as the returns come in. then you could at least try and put some weight behind the numbers.

hmm. mayor is stuck at 10%, but councilmen is at 20%, and dems numbers are double the reps.
