Default Idea: Just pull the "Republican" lever?

With all this talk about corruption and the FBI investigations, I'm just getting more sick of the current posture of this City.

If we are going to take out John Street as Mayor, how far will that get us (in reference to City corruption and old-world mindset)?

Is this a case where we just need to kick out all the in-bred Democrats from their positions, by pulling the straight-ticket "Republican" lever on November 4? Any repercussions of this act, that you can think of?

Just wondering and entertaining the idea. :-)

Default Lever2003

I must admit I'm closer to that than I would ever have thought possible. I feel profoundly alienated from the Democratic party (my party of registration and generally the one I have voted for) because of what's gone on in this election.

However, I don't believe in lever-pulling in general. You have to vote for people based on at least some slim knowledge. By the way, vote for Hardy for at-large council. The Inquirer endorsed him today and from all I've heard of him, he sounds like a smart guy (and an African-American Republican living in North Philly...talk about guts).

This "pull Republican" talk is making me get a little antsy now. I suggest you stop that. I'm starting to believe the rhetoric that getting Philly is part of the national GOP plan to take back PA. And while Philly is important to me, making sure another GWB clown isn't in the big white house next time is much more important. Zogby reminded me of the "partial birth abortion" reason to jaunt back to NARAL and volunteer...and perhaps pull some Dem levers on the way there.

What I don't understand about this whole "Vote Republican" suggestion is in other threads, it's been suggested that blindly voting for one party (Democrats) is part of the problem in this city. That it's okay to be a Democrat that votes for Katz, because the city needs more people that look beyond a political label and tries to learn about each candidate.

I'm getting the impression that logic only applies to certain cases.

Oh I certainly hope and believe that Bush will not make it past '04.

I emphatically don't condone much of the Republican actions. That juggernaut needs to be stopped - and I believe that their powerbase will be lessened in '04.

However, I mearly entertain the idea of voting Republican here in the Philadelphia '03 election because I know that we could change the Mayor, but he would be subjected to a lot of the in-bred corruption that many of the current democratic council incumbents carry.

And to really make change in this City, and get those slacker councilpeople to work, they need to be changed just as the Mayor will be.

PS: For the record, I am a Democrat, who votes for who I think is best (rather than along party lines), and my topic here is perhaps out of an emotional response. Mostly it's just entertaining the idea.

We need to clean house in City Hall and remove dead-wood public servants who have forgotten the meaning of public service.

A vote for Sam Katz is a vote to revive Philadelphia with CPR: Change, Progress, and Reform.

Reform City Hall and vote out individuals who are not doing an effective job and have been entrenched for far too long.

VOTE SAM KATZ FOR MAYOR on Tuesday, November 4th.

Hasn't voting simply along party lines gotten us into enough trouble already? Shouldn't people vote for the best candidate regardless of party?
