<<PHILADELPHIA-October 21, 2003 — Philadelphia Mayor John Street and Republican challenger Sam Katz get one last chance tonight to square off verbally. Despite tonight's highly publicized debate, the main focus of this election if the federal probe surrounding Mayor Street. >>

Sam Katz will revive Philadelphia with much needed CPR: Change, Progress, and Reform.

I like that. Here's the CPR this city gets from John Street:

Cronyism
Patronage
Red tape

Default my two sense

Just watched the latest debate last night.

What a friggin' joke Street is. I felt dirty sitting through Street's lies (for example, saying that the City has never hired anyone that wasn't qualified...I see patronage jobs every day throughout my tenure here).

Katz appeared as his usual, up-front self, ready for change and a little risk for big gains. Katz wants to progress the City, while it's only in Street's interest to keep the status-quo so he can leave office without risk of losing anything.

He whines that this investigation is so high-profile. WELL: it's because Street himself made it so high-profile. He didn't have to scream out to the media that his office was bugged back 2 weeks ago. He could very well have kept it to his staff and the FBI to talk about what's going on.

The only reason it's become so media-ized is because Street himself outed the FBI and the FBI had to expedite their investigation because they were outed. And why did Street out the FBI? So he could "play the victim". This poor, black man being investigated by the big bad white republicans. Boo Hoo!

Which is another horrible thing: this campaign was not about race, but Street MADE it about race. He's the one who polarized this City, yet again, diving it by racial lines. This is absolutely disgusting to see a Mayor preside over his City like this.

How anyone could re-elect this turkey, with all the obvious corruption, and all his self-serving means, is beyone me.

All of this talk and support we show Katz on-line means nothing if we don't get out the vote, and the blacks need something of a decent showing for Katz too.

Katz should have figured out last night that people are polarized and to stop trying to be the "good guy" he didn't capitalize on key times to bury street for his "brothers running the city" statement. He let street get away with spinning it into a "people are after me, the republicans are after me" thing.

Street kept pushing his I am the victim approach which was a smart move, as he has realized that people that are voting for him, are going to vote for him, an dthat he doesn't need to reach out to the masses anymore, but instead needs to continue to boost his platform of victimilogy. That is precisely what he did.

Point, Street. He's already ahead in the polls, so keeping his voters in tuned to how much of a victim he is is a smart move.

I'm inclined to agree - I think street won the debate. I dont' think Katz was compelling at all in how he presented his views, there really wasnt' anything new and different about what he was saying. Street held his own, I think.

Sam Katz was poised, confident, and articulate of his plans to change, progress, and reform Philadelphia so it will be a competitive 21st century.

Street was full of lies, excuses, and spin. No substance, no plans, no vision.

Sam Katz was the clear winner of the debate. He professionally stuck to the issues and presented them smartly and logically, even if some elitests don't think so.
