Does anyone else think that the Street campaign will jump onto Rush's comments about Donovan McNabb, and try to say that Sam Katz is like Rush, pointing out that Sam, like Rush, is a Republican?

I doubt it. Although I agree with what he said. McNab is overrated and the media does want him to succeed because he is black. Not all of them, but some. It's the samething with black coaches. And this new rule doesn't help. If you know you want someone and he happens to be white, isn't it degrading and racist to bring in black coaches just to appear not racist? I think so. Why is it that positions that are dominated by black players are not racist, but positions that are dominated by white players are?

I disagree completely. THe guy has been successful if you asked me. I mean, seriously, two division championships. How do you define success? That places him in the top four or five in the league and he's not yet 30.
If anything, the media has had very high expectations of hte team this year because this city is so hungry for a world championship in any sport ... the Eagles are truly our best shot right now, so of course the pressure is on. I thought Rush's comments were way out of line and completely off topic - besides, who made him an expert in the Philadelphia media, or on the Eagles for that matter? My understanding is he was hired to be "the ultimate fan" - that's what ESPN is saying about their choice to bring him in. Fans focus onthe game and how it's played, who wins, who loses - not on this crap. For crying out loud, people criticized Dennis Miller for being a lightweight on Monday Night Football, but at least he was funny. Rush is just way out of his league.

I kind of agree with Rush, but I would never go on air and make such comments. I think it's kind of funny how defensive local reporters (ie Daily News yahoos) have been toward those comments. A few years ago, when a basketball team had the first GM or owner, didn't the media say "it's good that there's finally black ownership in basketball." It's the same thing. But it's sad in this country that most people are still so unable to look past color.

What bothers me is the context in which it was presented. It's a show about football, the game, not a social commentary. His comments were entirely out of context.

I too would not have made them in that forum. I did not hear them directly. I assumed he was talking about nation media, not Philly media. Of course, the Philly media is going to play him up. That's what local media does with their local players. It's the national media I took it to be referring to. Can someone who heard the comments please inform me of the context. Thanks.

From ESPN's web site: "I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well," Limbaugh said. "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team." Here is the story on today's press conference with McNabb: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1627991

And this ....
<<The outcry in Philadelphia might grow when the timing of Limbaugh's remarks is considered: He is scheduled to be in the city Thursday to give a keynote address at the three-day National Association of Broadcasters radio convention.>>

I don't see it as a philly swipe. I see it as a national swipe. Still, it was very stupid, considering.
