Here is a sample letter I wrote if people want to copy and paste:

Re: Bill 070913 – Regulated Uses

In committee in City Hall there is Bill 070913 which states:
Amending Section 14-1605 of The Philadelphia Code, entitled "Regulated Uses," by adding Take-out Restaurants and Small Retail Food Establishments to the list of designated regulated uses, all under certain terms and conditions.

This bill will put establishments such as coffee shops, small restaurants, Wawas, delis, water ice and a variety of other establishments under the same zoning regulation as porn theatres, tattoo parlors and jails. It would prohibit restaurants from being placed near parks. It would prevent water ice stands from being placed near churches. It would prevent delis from being placed near Commercial Entertainment Districts.

This legislation will force a significant portion of the new business that is vital to developing neighborhoods to go through extra costs and political maneuvering to merely start business. Money, time and connections that hard working, mom and pop shops do not have the luxury to spend.

I urge you to give your support in denouncing this bill by contacting your elected officials, write letters to the newspaper and to tell all you know.

The bill is currently in committee. Now is the time to make ourselves heard. Let Councilman Clarke and Councilwoman Verna, the sponsors, know this legislation is wrong and disastrous to business in Philadelphia.

can someone post a link to the city council's emails? I am putting those idiots in my address book. on the phila.gov website they seem to only post their phone and fax numbers (what is that, discriminating against constituents with computers?) unless I am missing something.

Perhaps Phillyblog officials could create a "Sticky" of all of out local politicians e-mail address' at the top of the Politics Forum.
