Default Privacy vs. Deviant behavior

Dominatrix: I'll whip courts over sex rap
http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/6627177.htm
By DANA DiFILIPPO

Quote:
MICHELENE NELSON is a dark-haired, dagger-nailed dominatrix who pounds paying men into whimpering submission.

Next month, she hopes to make the court system whimper when she challenges her recent arrest on prostitution charges.

The 47-year-old Northeast Philadelphia woman was arrested, along with another woman, two weeks ago after police raided her Tacony sadomasochistic dungeon.

But Nelson, who beat similar criminal charges earlier this year, insisted that her business doesn't involve sex and that she's being persecuted for a misunderstood lifestyle that has become so popular that followers have to wait for appointments.

Her case highlights a growing conflict between privacy champions, who see S&M and related practices as civil-liberty issues, and crime-fighters, who see them as deviant sex behaviors that pose public-health risks. Her case is set for Sept. 23.
What are your thoughts on this case?

Do you think that politicians have gone too far in legislating morality, especially when it comes to sex and sexuality?

deviating:1 : to stray especially from a standard, principle, or topic
2 : to depart from an established course or norm
transitive senses : to cause to turn out of a previous course
what exactly is ilegal about deviating? I think for the definition of the word that we have gone too far in legislating this type of hting. Part of living in a free society is letting people do things that you don;t like or agree with.

What other cases can you think of that are similar to the one noted above?

What types of lifestyles and interests do you think are persecuted here in the city?

I think there was an article in Philly mag last year about an S&M dungeon that was broken up. Yet a place like Club Kama Sutra stays open? It baffles me. Now that sodomy is a-okay, seems like whatever this woman has been arrested for may soon change. Guess I'll rule out this as an alternative occupational choice for the time being....

There is no way that it should be illegal to buy something you can legally give away for free. Prostitution should be legalized. S&M is great fun. Try it, you'll like it. During climax, your pain threshold is higher. I guess I'm a deviant. Not a typical conservative response.

Should there be any restrictions?

Yes Zogby--I usually say that it's the conservative ones you gotta watch out for.

Agreed that prostitution should be legal. Far as I'm concerned, two consenting adults can do whatever they please...so long as it's not voting republican.

yeah, no murder or S & M without consent. meaning, tying your wife up and beating her doesn't make it S& M (or wife on husband as it may be.) seriously, prostitution is alive and well...why not recognize this with a nice tax so our wage tax can be lowered? and our business privilege tax? plus there would be less kidnapping and other shady practices in the industry. On top of that, our rime stats would go down.

No. Eliminate the income tax and increase the sales tax to 30% or some such high number. Than, decriminalize all drugs. That way all "illiegal" activities are taxed just as much as the rest of us. That new Escalade with the 20 inch rims, Taxed enough to pay for 30 kids schooling for a year. Yeah!
