Diamond St West of Temple definitely has some of the most impressive architecture I've seen in the city. A lot is abandoned but I recall some of the houses close to Broad being turned into apartments earlier this year. I believe there's also an old city ordinance that forbids building any bars on Diamond St. Probably dates back to when that was millionaire's row.
Not a whole lot worth seeing East of Temple, though (in "the Badlands"). The older architecture is mostly like what you'd see in Northern Liberties and about half of what's there is now new housing (PHA, for the most part). They just cleared out another couple city blocks between Oxford and Jefferson -- around 7th St or so -- so I suspect more PHA stuff's on the way. Here's the view to the East from Tempe's RR station: ![]()

Wonderful pictures - of areas we seldom see.
What is the huge Church structure in one of the early pictures? Went back and re-checked. Church of the Gesu.
