I like planting around the tree. I just put the fall stuff in yesterday. The summer flowers the marigolds, petunias and pansys just kept hanging in they did not want to die.
I saw a lemon tree last year up at the Isabella Steward Gardner museum in Boston. That is what gave me the idea for the lemon tree. If I find a mini olive tree I will be set.

I really hope you don't mind my hi-jacking this thread, but it would be great if people from different neighborhoods could post their favorite gardens. Its a big city afterall, and its fun to see what some people are doing. I'll share my Powelton faves:
This yard isn't big, but the overall effect is very lush ![]() This house is lucky to have a large corner lot. I believe this particular garden won a recent Urban Garden contest ![]() Again a large street frontage and lots of sunlight. Photo credit: Swinefeld @ www.skyscraperpage.com ![]() Small but effective. Photo credit: Swinefeld @ www.skyscraperpage.com ![]() I particularly like the oversized pots on the stoop here. Photo credit: Swinefeld @ www.skyscraperpage.com ![]() Simple flower selections here make a big impact. Photo credit: Swinefeld @ www.skyscraperpage.com ![]() Very naturalistic. Photo credit: Mike Jones @ www.poweltonvillage.org ![]() An urban sanctuary. Mike Jones @ www.poweltonvillage.org ![]() Another recent contest winner. Photo credit: Mike Jones @ www.poweltonvillage.org ![]() My own garden is not as nice...but I need suggestions! I am only a renter, so I am looking for a) affordable ideas b) plants that will be easy to maintain. And just to avoid confusion, I am not affiliated with the church...merely a neighbor. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now lets see some other hoods folks! |
