__________________________________________________ _________ Posting Images PhillyBlog does not actually store your images. You need a either an ISP or a service such as www.pbase.com ($23/year) to store the images. Before you do anything, you need to have an image hosted online. Hosting an image: 1. Upload the image to your ISP, or preferred image host. You can use a FTP program, or a web based tool that most ISPs have. 2. Copy the address of the image, you will be pasting this into the thread. ISP Info: If you are not sure if your ISP allows you to store files online then go to your ISPs website and search for "Online Storage" or "FTP". You need to check with your ISP for instructions on how to post and refer to the posted images. --Comcast How-to: http://www.comcast.net/memberservice...rage/index.jsp --Verizon DSL How-to: http://www2.verizon.net/help/dsl/?q=ftp Including an image in a post: 1. Type in the Subject (for example, PHOTO: Monkey Park - 09/10/03 (3 pics) 2. Click on the Img button. ![]() 3. Type in the URL for the picture. For example via Comcast: htt p://home.comcast.net/~UncleCranky/Blizzard1.jpg 4. Click on the Img button. 5. If done correctly, you should see this: 6. Preview the posting to make sure the image is displayed. 7. Submit the post. How to edit/resize images: Most digital cameras take 2+ megapixel pictures, which are usually quite large and bandwidth intensive. Simply downloading these images from the camera then adding them to the post will create issues for those viewing the site. It will take entirely too long to load the images, and then the images will be too large to view in the browser (forcing excessive left-right scrolling) How do you avoid this? Edit the pictures using a photo editor, or similar tool. Common software: -Adobe Photoshop -Adobe Image Ready -Paint Shop Pro -Gimp -Adobe Photoshop Elements ($99) will allow you enhance your images as well as resize and compress the image for posting. Image Posting guidelines: -The maximum posting sizes should be 1000 pixels or less. -Maximum image file size should be less than 200K. -Please keep replies to postings that contain images to non-image postings only. If you would like to post additional images related to a topic, then post them in a new post (preferably with the same Post name). Otherwise, postings will take forever to load. -IF YOU CHANGE YOUR ISP, be sure to move your images to the new ISP and modify all of the image URLs to point to the new ISP otherwise all of your image postings will be invalid. How-to resize the image and shrink the file size: 1. You need to open the image with your editor, and click on 'Image Size' 2. Change the image width to 1000 pixels, or less. Please use your best judgment, and remember that most users have their screen resolution set at either 800 or 1024 pixels wide. 3. Once you have resized your image, you need to save it in a compressed format. 4. Choose File-Save As and change the type to JPG/JPEG. 5. Change the name of the file or you will save over top of the original image, the next screen will allow you to change the image quality. 6. Reduce the image quality slider until your image is between 100k-200k.[/u] Last edited by Malloy : 04-14-2008 at 07:08 PM. |
