For those who are curious about fall foliage bicycle rides around the Philly area-
Now that the Delaware Canal is out of commission due to flood damage, the longest continious bike trail in the area is the combined Schuylkill Trail-Perkiomen Trail, which runs about 42 miles from Center City. Mountain Bikes can continue another 6 miles along Green Lane Park up to Knights Road. The current beginning of the combined bicycle trail is the Schuylkill River Trail at Locust Street Philadelphia The Schuylkill River Trail runs 22 miles out through Valley Forge and stops at a railroad bridge over the Perkiomen Creek near Route 422. The Perkiomen Trail starts at that railroad bridge, then runs another 20 miles due north to stop just outside Green Lane stopping at another old railroad Bridge over the Perkiomen Creek. Continuing north, there is a mountain bike trail that runs along the east bank of Green Lane Reservoir to the picnic grove by Knights Road in Green Lane State Park You can get a 15 mile head start on the ride out to Green Lane by hopping on the R6 Train to Norristown and starting there.
