Default Hispanics in Philadelphia?

I hate to ask what might be a stupid question, but... I'm not from around here, so here I go nonetheless.

Where does most of the Hispanic community live in Philadelphia? As you guys know, I'm from NYC so I'm used to interacting with people from all walks of life. One of the first things that struck me when I moved here nearly two years ago was that Philadelphia seems to be pretty much black and white... with a sprinkling of other nationalities thrown in.

I suppose I'm more curious now because the object of my affection is Puerto Rican and we're often met with curious looks when walking around the city. He thinks it's because we're an interracial couple (black and Latino); I think it's because we don't encounter many Latinos in CC and UC.

What say u?

The Puerto Rican section of the city's heart and soul is the Centro de Oro on north fifth...from Lehigh south to I'm not sure what street. I'll be heading up there soon to try the Shining STar REstaurant at 2460 N 5th St which has a website that I now can't find. Anyways, a good time to poke around up ther emight be in Sept when the Puerto rican festival is. A lot of people are intimidated by the high crime rate up there. no specifically on fifth st but the surrounding area. the mexican community appears to be in south philly.

Ya, Centro de Oro is a bit more authentic than the 'Italian Market' ;-) Feria del Barrio <sp> is a good time.

Here ya go 5:

N. 5th and N. American Streets up closer to the Boulevard have concentrations of Hispanic restaurants & shops, right? Any recommendations for particular blocks to go check out?

The neighborhoods around 5th Street are mostly hispanic all the way from West Kenzo to Olney

But you're right that Philly's definitely more of a "black/white" city than New York.

Go to the Feria del Barrio festival in Sept. which is listed in the above link. Its probably 95% hispanic/local. Good times!
