Birdie Africa: the Movie
The MOVE bombing comes back to the silver screen, but from a different angle. Anyone else curious how Philly is going to come out in this movie adaptation.

Producer wants to film the story of MOVE bombing survivor
By JOSEPH R. DAUGHEN

HE WAS Birdie Africa until he turned 13, and he had never spent a day in school; couldn't read or tell time; had never owned a toy.
Birdie, one of only two survivors of the 1985 bombing of the MOVE house in West Philadelphia, wasn't allowed to eat cooked food, ride a bicycle, watch TV or play games children normally play.
But, incredibly enough, he grew up to be Michael Moses Ward, a sergeant in the Army who married his high school sweetheart, fathered two children, and became a productive member of society.
To Seymour Levin, the improbable transformation of Birdie into Michael is a uniquely Philadelphia tale that hasn't ever been told.
"This is the only story with a happy ending to come out of the MOVE disaster and it hasn't ever been told," said Levin, 54.
Levin intends to rectify that with "Philadelphia's Child," the film he is producing that will tell the story of how Birdie became Michael.
