Default Fishtown Teens Murder Trial

Have any of you followed this story about the 4 teens who conspired to murder their teen friend for $500? The murder happened 2 years ago, but the trial is just getting underway now. I was sickened when this first happened and the trial is bringing back all of those feelings. The victim was an honest, hardworking kid with dreams of joining the military. He earned $500 working construction with his dad. On payday, the murderers hatched a plot to lure him to a secluded location. The lure was a female and the bait was sex. The 4 brutally murdered the boy at the location, partied with their spoils, and have shown no remorse. Jailhouse letters between the murderers espesially reveal the girl as an evil manipulator and the driving force in the conspiracy. One of the boys who took part in the murder was formally the victims best friend. What a sad thing to see so many young lives wasted. I dont know who I'm more upset with - the murderers or their parents..

The whole case is disgusting and sad. Proof positive that white kids in parochial school can sometimes be as "bad" if not worse as anybody else. These kids bludgeoned one of their friends head beyond recognition, fracturing every single bone in his skull for $500. I suspect the sheer gruesomeness of the whole case, as well as raw nerves among friends of the different parents in Fishtown is part of why their has been less discussion of the trial.

A lot of media coverage seems to be feeding into the defense's version that the girl sexually "bewitched" the boys into doing it but any one of thoe boys could have said "I'm not cool with this" and backed out of the plan. All 4 of them went in with an intentional plan to brutally murder, not just rob, someone they all knew and were at least mildly friendly with. Chilling.

The girl and I think 2 of the boys were at CEP, which reaffirms my point that not all kids going there are rehabbed. But I guess that belongs in the Parenting & Education thread.

It was disgusting what they did and how it was planned, and how they celebrated after...

Any thoughts on the fact now that the elder Coia brother now cannot receive the death penalty?

Did you see in today's DN that the girl "exposed" herself while being transported? Very, um ... interesting child.

Vixen testifies again in slay trial

Letters expose girl's deep, dark side
By THERESA CONROY

Prosecutor Jude Conroy wasn't kidding when he said we wouldn't like Justina Morley.

As the teenage vixen of the Fishtown murder spent a second day on the stand, more of her sinister leanings trickled from those pouty little lips.

Under cross-examination yesterday, Morley, 16, was forced to read more passages from the stack of jailhouse letters she sent to her former co-defendants, Eddie Batzig Jr., and brothers Domenic and Nicky Coia. The correspondence underscored a dark side to the girl - far darker even than the details of her admitted involvement as the sex bait in the vicious 2003 murder of 16-year-old Jason Sweeney.

Salacious facts that tumbled out included a shocking interaction the teens had while riding in the van that transported them to their preliminary hearing in June 2003. While riding - handcuffed - with Batzig, the Coias and a complete stranger, Morley exposed herself. She did it, she admitted, because Domenic Coia had never seen her naked.

Nicky Coia's defense attorney, Barbara McDermott, also revealed that Morley had tried to lure Domenic Coia into a suicide pact after they were sent to jail.

The most chilling revelation, however, was something Morley scrawled, in capital letters, on one of the jailhouse notes:

"PASSION FOR MURDER!"

Other letters she wrote to the youths described the thrill she got from violence, her enjoyment of torturing others and the pleasure she took from flashbacks to Sweeney's beating death. She testified Tuesday that she had stood just eight feet away as Batzig and the Coias split open Sweeney's head with a hatchet, a hammer and rocks.

"It would be hard to make myself cry so they could think I'm remorseful or scared or whichever," she wrote. "It's fun making people think and be confused."

Morley admitted she had had sex with Batzig and Nicky Coia, and told Domenic she loved him and wanted to have his baby. She said, however, that she had said and done a lot of things she did not mean.

|| snip ||
Prosecutor Conroy warned jurors in his opening statement they would not like Morley.

"Nor should you like her," he added. "Evil comes in many forms."

She sounds like a sociopath who was the first to cut a deal and is therefore getting off easy.

Or maybe I just watch too much Law & Order
