I'm moving to Phili in a few month , and as you probably understand from the headline , I'm gay
In Israel (where I come from) there's a very large (free) on-line dating site , and almost everyone has a profile there.

Do you have something equivalent in Phili (or in the US in general)? How's gay life in Phili , anyway? What's the best way to meet new people ? class-ads? clubs? online dating?

Well, I've tried craiglist , but it's basically a place to find - well , sex . It's not like you can develop some kind of conversation over there. Any other Ideas?

welcome! for future reference, we spell it "philly" with a "y", not an "i".

there is a neighborhood in center city philly called the "gayborhood" -- it's the gay neighborhood. the area is roughly 10th street to broad street and chestnut to pine. it's a great area to live in and play in, as there are lots of excellent restaurants and shops.

Freudian Slips: when you say one thing but mean your mother

Not always. It may seem that way as your right about a large percentage of them but I have found some genuine people on craigslist. Granted as I am female I am not looking in the Gay males section but if you weed through them you can find some good possibilities.

Then again maybe thats why I find guys in person and CL I have only used really for finding women. I gave up pretty quickly looking in the section for finding men. (I look for only monogamous meaningful relationships in my life and I am bi in the sense that I date the person, not the gender)

Philadelphia is a very good place for gay people to live. Most people are very accepting and tolerant of gay people, we have a good number of gay bars, restaurants, clubs and organizations.

If I was new here the first thing I would do is go to the William Way Gay, Lesbian, Bi - and Trans Community Center on Spruce Street near 13th, just a block from the famous Kimmel Center. Go in, find out what groups meet there on which days and begin your search for "Mr. Right".

There is a gay Jewish synogogue congregation that meets every other sabbath at the magnificent grand old synogogue on Broad Street near Spring Garden St, just a few blocks north of City Hall.

On the lovely warm nights of summer hang out in the "Gayborhood."

Gay dating here in Philly is basically the same as any other city. You're on the right path by coming to Phillyblog-just get to know as many people as possible.

My advice is to build a social life first.
