Skip it altogether. It is lame as hell, unless you are into drill team performances (and some people are, so I won't bash them entirely, just not my thing.)

If you have a kid it's worth going. It's pretty corny, no doubt about it, but it's fun for children.

Hate to say this but I agree. If you want to see a parade, hop the train to NY and see the Macy's Parade.

What might be fun is going down to the starting point (wherever that is) the night before and watching them blow up the balloons.

In NY, we used to go every Thanksgiving Eve to 77th Street, next to the Museum of Natural History. It's a party as balloons go from flat on the street to towering Kermits. And the party is not bad, either.

I have not heard that this happens here but it must occur on a smaller scale.

Every year when I was a kid, we went to the Macy's parade. I completely loved it. We continued this tradition until 9/11. My mother now refuses to go because she is one of those folks who have been sufficiently scared into believing she is now a terrorist target.

So, two years ago, we bundled up the kid (one, at that time) and went to the Philly parade. Katie was too young to know what was going on, but I thought it was great.

Yeah, it was much, much smaller than Macy's. And we had lame celebs, like the Pointer Sisters, but if you want to start getting into the holiday mood (which we refuse to do until Thanksgiving!), it's great. It's fun to see so many folks out, singing along to Christmas carols and dancing to the marching bands. The parkway looks great and we've found it to be crowded enough to make it fun, but not so crowded that it's irritating.

In true Philly spirit, last year, guys were throwing footballs across the parade route in between floats. The crowd loved it.

I thought the sense of community and holiday spirit was fabulous - and we are going again this year.

Yup, we'll be there, unless it's pouring icy rain. But then we live very close - 10-15 minutes' walk away. Gotta do something while the bird is cooking.

I'm totally going, complete with kiddies and extended family.

Ever since I was an itty-bitty, we made the trip to the Macy's Parade. It was a really nice tradition. Post 9/11, my mom won't go back. So, we switched to the Philly parade. Not as big but also less crowds - and home in 20 minutes! When hubby used to work for Dechert on Arch Street, we also had a great view and a clean bathroom...

But the last few years, it's been us and the kiddies on our own. We really enjoy it. My daughter is very into the marching bands. And I appreciate the various phases of the Eagles fight song along the parade route because it's funny (though I don't know that we'll have that this year!).
